Chapter 142 Old Kent

Chapter 143 Old Kent

"How could this be?" Alo looked at Zhou Xin in disbelief, then at Du Bois struggling on the ground.

During this period, his relationship with Du Bois was at its best.

Du Bois gave him a lot of guidance on machine operation, and he essentially regarded Du Bois as his teacher.

He was completely unable to accept the news that Du Bois had stolen gold.

"He did try to hit Mr. Zhou with a hammer. If Mr. Zhou hadn't dodged quickly, his head would probably have been smashed open."

Bowman walked over and confirmed Zhou Xin's words.

Alo trembled violently, looking at Du Bois with a complex expression.

"I've already given him one chance, but he didn't seize it," Zhou Xin sighed.

Although he had no feelings for Du Bois, he knew that Alo was a very sentimental person, and that this matter was the most painful for him.

"Let me go! I'll hand over all the gold!" Du Bois knew he couldn't escape and had to face reality.

"I told you, I've already given you a chance!" Zhou Xin said coldly, taking out his phone to call the police.

"Mr. Zhou, perhaps—perhaps we should let him go?" A Luo said with a look of reluctance.

He was young at heart and extremely sentimental, and he couldn't bear to see Du Bois go to prison.

"Yes, since the gold has been recovered anyway, let's spare him!" Bowman and Dubois lived together and had a good relationship, so he spoke up to plead for him.

Zhou Xin glanced at Alo, then slowly walked up to Du Bois and took the gold bag from his hand.

"I'll spare you out of consideration for our past friendship and because they pleaded for you, but I don't want to see you again. Go!"

The only reason Dubois was spared was because of Alo's pained expression.

Du Bois repeatedly said, "Thank you, thank you all!"

However, after injuring his leg, he could no longer walk and could only continue crawling towards the parking area.

Alo ran over, helped him up, and led him to his car.

"I'll take him to Anchorage!"

During this time, in addition to learning how to operate excavators and bulldozers, Alo also learned how to drive a car with Edward and the others in his spare time.

"Forget it, I'll do it. You don't have a driver's license; it'll be a real problem if the police catch you!"

Bowman came over and helped Du Bois into the car.

Alo knew he made sense and nodded.

Watching the vehicle disappear into the darkness, everyone returned to the office.

"Shin, how much gold did he steal?" Edward asked.

Zhou Xin took out the two bags containing gold, placed them on the table, and opened them. The others, upon seeing them, fell silent.

The two bags of gold together contain at least a dozen ounces.

"I'm sorry, Xin. I didn't take good care of Gold, but I really don't know when he did it!" Edward said with a look of self-reproach.

During the time Zhou Xin and the other man were away, he was the one who collected and stored the gold. He really couldn't figure out when Du Bois stole it.

"It's not your fault. You're the only one looking after the entire gold mining factory. You can't possibly supervise it the whole time."

If you just sneak a handful from the money-grabbing carpet every day when he goes to the toilet or something, the accumulated amount will not be small.

"Looks like I need to consider installing a security cage on the money-attracting carpet."

Zhou Xin shook his head: "That's too troublesome. The most important thing is that we need to be more careful when recruiting members and make sure that everyone in the mine is trustworthy enough."

The people present are all absolutely trustworthy, and judging from his current behavior, Bowman is still an upright person.

With Dubois gone, there was one less machine operator. Although Alo is now fully capable of handling things on his own, one person is still not enough.

We need to hire another machine operator.

When recruiting team members, he selected two experienced operators: Du Bois and a particularly eccentric guy named Old Kent.

He had initially ruled out Kent from the team because he didn't want a teammate who was difficult to control.

But now it seems that my initial judgment may have been a mistake.

As long as you're willing to work hard and are honest, what does it matter if you have a bad temper?

In order not to delay the gold mining work, Zhou Xin didn't care whether the other party was already asleep or not, and immediately found Kent's contact information and dialed.

The phone rang for quite a while before it was finally answered.

The voice on the other end of the phone was extremely annoyed: "Damn it, don't you know what time it is? You've disturbed my sweet dream!"

"Excuse me, Mr. Kent, this is Xin, the one who contacted you last time. I'd like to hire you to work at my mine. I wonder if you've found a job yet?"

"I remember now, you're the guy who hung up on me before I could finish speaking. What, do you want me to yell at you again?"

Edward and the others looked at each other, wondering if this guy had a really bad temper.

Zhou Xin, however, remained remarkably calm, smiling as he said, "Last time you called me foolish, saying that the land I rented couldn't possibly yield any gold and was just a waste of time. But I want to tell you that my mine has been operating for over a month, and the harvest is quite good so far."

"What!" Old Kent's voice almost shattered everyone's eardrums.

"That's fine, if you don't believe me, that's fine too, but I genuinely want to hire you this time."

"I really don't believe it. I've heard about that area before; it's such a barren place that you could walk around with a detector for a whole day and it wouldn't even go off. But I'll come and check it out!"

Old Kent's voice became more serious, clearly he was considering the possibility of Zhou Xin's words.

"Welcome to confirm your arrival. When would be your availability?"

Time waits for no one, and Zhou Xin was unwilling to waste too much time waiting. If it really didn't work out, he would just find another one. It didn't matter if the skills were not good enough, since high-level skills were not required here anyway.

"Hmph, I'll come first thing tomorrow morning. I want to see if you're just a bragging idiot or if you actually have some skills."

Zhou Xin breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed that although this guy had a bad temper, he was also a man of character.

People with strong emotions are much less likely to do something like Du Bois.

"Okay, then I look forward to your—"

Before he could finish speaking, there was a "snap" sound, and old Kent had already hung up the phone.

This guy is clearly getting revenge for Zhou Xin hanging up on him halfway through the call last time.

Zhou Xin seemed to picture the smug look on his face after hanging up the phone.

"This guy has a really strange temper. Are you really going to hire him?" Edward expressed his doubts about Zhou Xin's decision.

"I actually think he was a pretty simple person. Du Bois had a good temper, but what happened in the end?"

Edward was speechless.
