Chapter 52 Peanuts and Houttuynia cordata

Chapter 52 Peanuts and Houttuynia cordata

Upon hearing Lin Chuan's suggestion to go hunting, Wang Long agreed without hesitation.

Even after Lin Chuan pointed out the potential dangers, he didn't hesitate at all.

Lin Chuan patted him on the shoulder:

"Alright, go back and get some sleep. Yanzi will sleep here with Xiaoxue tonight."

The next day.

Lin Chuan was awakened by the fish catch notification sound. He had just closed his eyes and was trying to fall back asleep when a second notification sound came.

The thought of the four more challenges ahead made Lin Chuan irritable, so he simply turned off the system notifications. Unless he actively looked at them, they would never be displayed again.

But he didn't get to sleep for long before the two little ones woke him up.

Children are creatures that can be much more troublesome than one or two, and Lin Chuan was kept awake by them.

Fortunately, he slept for quite a while, about seven or eight hours, and quickly regained his energy after waking up.

Because the stove was occupied by braised pig's head and intestines, Lin Feng didn't know what to do with it, so he simply left it untouched.

He cooked porridge on the stove and also stir-fried a pot of pickled vegetables.

Porridge with pickled vegetables is the standard breakfast for most families in this area, including Lin Chuan's family in the past.

They've been eating too much meat lately, and meat with porridge doesn't taste as good as with rice, so they've been eating rice all the time these days.

The little girl has a sweet tooth; after eating delicious food for over a week, her face has visibly become rounder.

My mother, Lin Feng, also looks much better; she seems to have grown a bit taller.

Seeing that everyone was looking at him expectantly, Lin Chuan reached out and tapped Lin Xue's head, since she looked the most eager.

Take the pig's head and intestines out of the pot, and ladle out the soup. This stuff can be used a few more times.

However, there were no fresh pig heads left at home. The wild boar they had hunted in Liziao was killed at Wang Long's house, and he only brought one back.

Lin Chuan gave one set to Wang Liang's family and two sets to Wang Long's family. He decided to send the soup over later so that they could also taste the braised vegetables.

Slicing, adding seasonings, and drizzling oil—the process is exactly the same as making cucumber salad.

When the braised double platter was served, their eyes lit up. At this point, their taste buds hadn't been dulled by the seasonings yet, and the spice-infused sauce was incredibly delicious no matter how they ate it.

Lin Chuan wasn't very interested in that; he just kept eating the pickled vegetables.

That's the taste. Decades later, he couldn't replicate that flavor no matter how he pickled vegetables.

"Brother, what are we going to do after we eat?"

"Go pick some peanuts. If you finish picking them today, I'll make you some braised peanuts later; they're delicious too."

"Yay! Let's go pick peanuts! I love peanuts the most!"

"I'll go pick some too, I love peanuts too."

Lin Xue and Wang Yan both voiced their support, but their mother brought up something else:

"The admission notice should be coming soon, right? Why don't you go to the school and take a look? There's only one peanut field; you can harvest them all today."

"It's okay, Mom. Even if you come down, you won't get lost."

Lin Chuan didn't care about the admission notice at all, since he wasn't planning to read it again. It would be better if he just threw it away, so he wouldn't have to rack his brains for an excuse.

His mother said a few more words, but seeing that Lin Chuan remained unmoved, she didn't say anything more.

Anyway, Lin Chuan has always been a worry-free person for her since he was a child, and I believe he knows what he's doing.

After dinner, the whole family, including Wang Yan, went out to harvest peanuts.

Lin Chuan, Lin Feng, and their mother were pulling, while Lin Xue and Wang Yan were responsible for checking if anything had fallen into the soil.

Lin Chuan transformed into a ruthless peanut-pulling machine, incredibly fast and without needing to rest; once he bent over, he never straightened up again.

He was much faster than his mother and Lin Feng combined, so they simply took turns picking up the pieces while Lin Chuan pulled them up by himself.

In just over an hour, just past ten o'clock, Lin Chuan had harvested all the peanuts in one field.

Aside from telling Lin Chuan to slow down at the beginning, his mother kept her head down and focused on her work until Lin Chuan finished pulling it up and she finally realized what was happening.

Looking at Lin Chuan, who was taller than her, her mother's expression was complicated, a mixture of happiness, relief, and heartache.

"Why won't you listen to me? You're not in a hurry. I told you to rest for a while, but you keep working like this. Are you tired? Does your back hurt?"

"Mom, it's okay. I've been eating a lot of meat lately, so I'm in great shape. Have you forgotten how I passed over a thousand pounds? This is nothing."

"Alright, alright, I know you're capable. You rest first, we'll pick them up, tie them up, and carry them back to pick them slowly."

Seeing that there wasn't much work left, Lin Chuan didn't insist and started wandering around the neighborhood.

This piece of land was at the foot of a fir forest. He went in for a walk and immediately caught four wild rabbits.

When he got back, the peanuts had already been picked and were being tied up. Lin Chuan tossed the rabbit aside.

"Xiao Feng, make each bundle a little bigger, put two vines on it, but don't tie the vines yet."

After shouting, Lin Chuan ran off and cut a bamboo stalk about the thickness of a calf. He removed the nodes, chopped off the thinner part at the front, leaving a large bamboo pole about five or six meters long.

"Come and line them up, tie them all up here."

"It's so heavy, how can we carry it? We'll have to carry it in loads."

"It's alright, Mom. I don't want to make several trips for things that can be done in one trip. Xiaoxue, Yanzi, go and take that rabbit. You two go first."

"Hey, another rabbit! You're amazing, brother."

There weren't many peanuts, maybe four or five hundred pounds at most (including the vines), and Lin Chuan carried them back easily.

My mother followed behind, checking to see if any peanuts had fallen, her eyes filled with undisguised surprise.

She had only heard that Lin Chuan had dragged a wild boar weighing over a thousand pounds, but she had never actually witnessed Lin Chuan's extraordinary performance.

Even though many people say she can't reconcile the image of a strongman with Lin Chuan.

Now, seeing Lin Chuan carrying such heavy things, walking unhurriedly, and even having the leisure to chat with Lin Feng for a few words, without even panting, is quite a sight.

She looked at him several times before she dared to believe that this was her son.

Then she smiled, a very happy smile, which eased the gloom between her brows.

Lin Chuan had no idea what his mother was thinking. He picked out something weighing four or five hundred pounds with ease.

Suddenly, Lin Chuan's eyes lit up:

"Hey, Xiaofeng, go and pick some houttuynia cordata, the bigger ones."

Lin Feng was a little puzzled. What was the point of this thing? Was it to be boiled into water and drunk? It seemed like no one had been experiencing any heatiness lately.

However, he basically didn't ask Lin Chuan any questions; he just did what he was told.

Even though the two little girls started walking, their short legs couldn't keep up. Lin Chuan saw them after walking for a while, and he shouted:

"Run! I'm coming for you!"

"Ah, my brother's here! Swallow, run!"

"Ah, charge!"

"Don't run, I'm coming to catch you!"

"No way, just kidding."

The two little girls giggled and ran forward. Lin Chuan, carrying several hundred pounds of peanuts, also started running, but he just teased the two girls and kept his speed under control.

This startled my mother, who, without even checking if the peanuts on the ground were gone, chased after him.

"Slow down, don't run, what if you fall? Slow down."

"Mom, don't worry, you won't fall."
