Chapter 81 Wild Graves, Ghosts
Chapter 81 Wild Graves, Ghosts
"Xiao Chuan, Xiao Feng, come take a bath."
"Hey, here it comes."
The old man's house doesn't have a bathroom, and there are many people there. If everyone were to shower individually, it would probably take two or three hours.
So Lin He led them directly to a corner of the courtyard, an open space with three sides covered and one side completely uncovered.
There was a bucket on the ground containing hot water, two buckets of cold water, and two bathtubs.
"Let's wash up first and then go up the mountain. Go to bed early, because we'll have to get up in the middle of the night to bang the gong."
Lin Feng looked at Lin Chuan with an embarrassed expression.
Lin He, taking off his clothes, chuckled, "What's wrong? Are you embarrassed? Don't worry, no one's coming."
Lin Chuan was also a little uncomfortable, as he had never had this kind of experience before. But seeing that his uncle had taken his clothes off, he figured he might as well take his off too, since they were all grown men anyway.
"Wow, Ogawa's got some assets, and a great physique too. So, have you got a girlfriend at school yet?"
"Uncle, if Grandpa finds out about this, he'll break your legs."
"Hehe, can't I run with my long legs? I'll need his old arms and legs to catch up with me."
"You unfilial son, who are you calling old and frail?"
The three of them were naked and facing inwards when the sudden sound behind them startled them.
"Dad, what brings you here? We're taking a bath."
"What's wrong with taking a bath? I've seen everything. Hurry up and finish, then we'll go up the mountain."
"Dad, are you going up the mountain too?"
"What's wrong? Can't I go?"
The old man said one sentence and left. Lin He smiled.
"Hurry up and wash. The old man is probably worried that you might slip and fall in the dark."
No one knows a father better than his son; the old man really shared Lin He's idea.
The Lin family finally produced a promising student. With less than a month until school starts, if he falls and gets injured, affecting his studies, he'll have nowhere to turn for help.
He didn't want Lin Chuan to go, but he had already agreed before, and it wouldn't be good to go back on his word now. After thinking it over, he decided to go along too.
The three of them were originally going to squeeze onto the bamboo bed on the mountain, but since the old man wanted to go, they had to carry an extra bamboo bed up with them.
Lin Chuan naturally took on this task without hesitation. Amidst everyone's surprised gazes, he tucked the bamboo bed under one arm and left.
"How can Ogawa be so strong?"
"Dad, Xiaochuan is really strong now. Last time he pulled a wild boar weighing over a thousand pounds back without even panting. You can give him any heavy or tiring work you need."
Hearing their mother say this, the group looked at Lin Chuan in surprise and chattered for a while. However, Lin Chuan had already walked far away, and Lin He and the others quickly packed up their things and followed.
"Xiao Chuan, do you know where you're going? You're walking so fast, aren't you tired? Or should I help you carry it?"
"No need, Uncle. This weight is nothing to me. I really don't know where we're going. Uncle, you can lead the way."
"I didn't know you were walking so fast, and you didn't even take a flashlight. Aren't you afraid of falling with such a small light? Xiao Feng, take this and light the way for your brother."
Lin Chuan actually knew the place; they had mentioned it during their conversation during the day. However, considering that he hadn't been there for several years, he shouldn't remember it so clearly, so he didn't say anything.
Lin Chuan smiled and waited for Lin He to pass before following him. Lin Feng shone a flashlight behind him, while the old man was still some distance away.
When we got to the top of the mountain, there was originally a shed, but it was too small, so we had to build another one because of the heavy dew at night.
It's called a shed, but it's really just four pillars with some thin branches laid across the top and some thatch on top. There are no walls, only a roof, mainly to keep out the dew.
There was already one, so now we just need to insert two pillars. Several people worked together and it was done quickly.
During this process, Lin He quickly realized something was wrong:
"Hey, Ogawa, how can you see things without a flashlight?"
Although Lin Feng was shining a flashlight, the light was limited, and Lin Feng knew that Lin Chuan could see without a flashlight, so he wasn't shining it very carefully.
"Uncle, I have good eyesight; I can see even in a little light at night."
"How many is this?"
Lin He suddenly stretched out his hand and held up a number. He deliberately placed his hand low so that Lin Chuan could see it more easily if he looked up at the distant sky.
"Naive," Lin Chuan muttered under his breath, then sighed with a hint of helplessness.
"Haha, Little Chuan Niu, you can even see this."
Lin He had deliberately chosen the darkest spot, where he himself couldn't see clearly, while Lin Chuan was quite far away. He never expected that Lin Chuan could actually see him.
"What's wrong? Why are you shouting?"
The old man was tidying up his things in the old shed when he heard Lin He's words and came over.
Lin He repeated Lin Chuan's ability to see at night, which prompted the old man to gesture with his hand as well.
They always say like father, like son. No wonder they can be friends; they're both so childish.
After they were settled, they lay down on two sides, Lin Chuan and Lin Feng on one bed, and Lin He and Lin Tian on the other, with nothing separating them.
"Hey, Ogawa, you can see in the dark, so what kind of things can you see that you shouldn't see?"
Lin He lay down for a while and then suddenly asked a question that left Lin Chuan completely bewildered:
"What is it?"
"It's something adults can't see, but kids can, you know, ghosts. Can you see them?"
In this desolate wilderness, in this long, dark night, Lin He, that scoundrel, actually mentioned ghosts. Lin Chuan clearly felt Lin Feng's body tense up.
The old man said, "If you want to sleep, then sleep. If you don't want to sleep, then shut up. Why are you talking about ghosts in the middle of the night? Don't you want anyone to get some sleep?"
"I can't sleep yet, so let's chat. Dad, don't be so timid. There are no ghosts in this world."
"Okay, you say there are no ghosts, then go sleep under that persimmon tree."
The persimmon tree the old man mentioned was only five or six meters away from them. Lin He was curious:
"Dad, why do you want to sleep under that persimmon tree?"
The old man said slowly, "There's a grave over there, a wild grave. Why don't you go and give it a try?"
What's it like to sleep with a grave just a few meters away?
Even though Lin He prided himself on being brave, he felt uneasy at this moment and kept his mouth shut, not saying another word.
Lin Chuan was fine; he genuinely didn't believe in ghosts and gods or any of that superstitious stuff, and he fell asleep quickly.
"Ring ring ring..."
A sudden alarm clock woke Lin Chuan up, and he reached out and turned it off.
This was because he was afraid of oversleeping while keeping watch. Lin Chuan picked up the alarm clock and checked the time; it was exactly midnight.
It's worth mentioning that before leaving, Lin He took off his watch and handed it to his wife, afraid that she might take the alarm clock and not know the time in the morning.
Although Lin Xue's mother and the others still have watches, the host family usually has to get up even earlier to cook, so it's inconvenient if they don't have the time.
Sometimes, my uncle is quite thoughtful and not as unreliable as he seems.
Lin Chuan went to bed early and slept for three or four hours. He felt fine and got up after turning off the alarm.
Looking at the three of them again, they were still asleep. The alarm clock only made Lin He turn over, while the other two didn't move at all. I don't know what time they went to sleep.
