Chapter 11: Street Scoundrels on the Bering Sea
Chapter 11: Street Scoundrels on the Bering Sea
They heated up some fast food in the microwave, sat on the deck, and ate while looking at the gold-diving ships around them.
"Jason, this is public waters."
Looking at the gold-digging ships running at full speed, Brent sighed with emotion.
"It's alright, they won't find much gold," Jason said with a confident smile.
Although these gold-dredging ships have considerable experience in gold panning, the seabed here is quite complex. If they do not have their own exploration capabilities, they will run out of fuel costs by following traditional gold panning methods.
However, looking at the information on his laptop, Jason already knew where to go next to strike gold.
The gold was collected clean from the felt and the gold-plating trough, and then placed directly into plastic buckets and carried into the ship's cabin.
Jason and Brent decided to get a good night's sleep.
The area suddenly fell silent, leaving the surrounding gold-digging boats somewhat bewildered.
But the gold in the gold vat couldn't be faked. They didn't know what had gotten into Jason, but they weren't going to stop.
Five hours later, Corinna's voice came through the ship's intercom: "Jason, what happened on your end? Have you received a reply?"
Jason, woken up, rubbed his face and yawned, replying, "Corinna, we're resting."
Corinna, holding the walkie-talkie, yelled, "Damn Jason, this is the Bering Sea, not your bedroom!"
Undeniably, she was indeed jealous. Damn Jason, no debt burden, the boat was still his own, and no matter how much gold he panned, it was pure profit.
"Yes, Corinna, this is the Bering Sea, we need to be careful."
"Go to hell!"
Corinna hung up the walkie-talkie immediately; what started as concern had turned into resentment.
"Brent, do you want to rest a little longer?" Jason asked, seeing that Brent had woken up.
"No, gold is the most important!"
Brent slapped his face hard, forcing himself to wake up quickly.
After washing their faces and brushing their teeth, they poured themselves a glass of milk and heated it up. After eating, amidst the puzzled gazes of the surrounding gold-digging boats, the two headed straight for their next destination.
The next location isn't far from here either; the boat has only traveled about a kilometer.
Jason went ashore to explore, while Brent remained on board to steer the ship.
The captain of Jason's gold-digging ship chuckled at their predicament.
"I'd always heard that Albert's youngest son was a novice driver, but it turns out Albert wasn't lying."
"He doesn't even need a money pump; is this kid here to go diving?"
·······
"Brent, are you sure you're not here to play around?"
Over the walkie-talkie, Corinna "kindly" extended an invitation to Brent: "Brent, why don't you come aboard my ship? I'll give you the same treatment as Eric."
"Thank you, Corinna, but it's alright."
Thinking of the gains from these two voyages, Brent just wanted to cling to Jason's coattails and wouldn't let him go no matter who came.
"Brent, northwest, slow down."
"Received Jason"
This bizarre situation was the first time many gold prospectors had ever encountered it.
Gold prospectors in the Bering Sea rely entirely on experience; each prospector has their own method, which may seem strange, but is respected.
Like a headless fly, the Lillian kept adjusting its course under Jason's command.
After Brent stopped, Jason surfaced and took off his diving equipment right there on the boat.
"Brent, get me a map of this area," Jason said, frowning.
Referring to his notes, Jason continued to mark locations on the nautical chart.
These locations are all places where ships have stopped, but Jason did not write down the detection data.
Based on the data at hand, Jason decided to give up. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the rich mining area should be located in someone else's sea area.
Experienced gold miners will definitely look for gold mining locations for the following year in the later stages of the gold rush season. Once they find a rich mining area, they will lease it as the start of the next year.
Jason is no veteran.
Moreover, the gold rush season has already begun, and even if one were to rent, it would be inappropriate to explore someone else's mining area in one's own way.
Ultimately, it comes down to insufficient detection capabilities!
Jason put the nautical chart away and said to Brent, "We need to find a new gold mining spot."
"Okay, I'll do whatever you say," Brente nodded without saying anything more.
Based on Jason's current findings, small money-grabbing boats that try to make money in these locations will undoubtedly lose money hand over fist!
The gold-snatching ship should target rich mining areas to find gold that has been washed away by water and stuck in rock crevices or gathered at bends in ocean currents!
Although gold-bearing gravel contains a considerable amount of gold, using a gold-draining ship would undoubtedly be a losing proposition.
They set sail again, aimlessly wandering.
After surfacing again and removing his diving equipment, Jason sat down on the deck and began to breathe heavily.
He only has this detection ability; he hasn't become a superman.
"Brent, you go down now, I need to rest."
"OK, no problem."
Brent managed to work well with Jason, who was quite eccentric in his job.
However, Brent always brings a money pump with him when he goes into the water. For him, since he's already in the sea, any amount is a success.
Of course, Jason doesn't bring a gold-sucking pump when he goes into the sea, unless he encounters some small, rich mining areas where he will surface to retrieve a gold-panning pump.
On the seabed, Brent was also swimming, constantly picking at some pebbles with his hands, trying to see that golden light by the light of the lamp.
He wasn't in a hurry; whenever he came across a spot with gold, he would turn on the gold-absorbing pump without moving on.
Although Jason thought the gold content here was pitifully low, he didn't think so.
Compared to last year's gold prospector who relied on metaphysics and stubbornly focused on one place, he believes that Jason is the real gold prospector.
Based on these two harvests alone, Brent can say that there is no gold prospector in the entire Bering Sea who is more outstanding than Jason!
Jason and his companion were no longer surprised by their casual strolls across the sea, as the news had already spread throughout the Bering Sea via radio.
Some busybodies even reported Jason and his companion's location on the radio after encountering them.
Jason completely ignored the mockers on the radio.
Albert, in particular, scoffed at the discussions on the radio when he heard the news.
This is why Jason's gold harvest wasn't leaked. If it had been, and Jason wanted to do the same thing at sea again, he would have been followed by a bunch of sycophants.
Ada kept giving Jason warnings over the radio about his voyage to the open sea to pan for gold.
Jason and Brent kept wandering around the public waters of the Bering Sea, going to work whenever they came across a rich mining area.
After absorbing all the marked points in Jason's notebook, move on to the next location.
They simply hit and run, then move on to a different location.
It's completely baffling how Jason and his crew make their gold.
Some gold prospectors who had tasted success by following Jason and his crew ultimately gave up and stayed behind to continue panning for gold, seeing Jason and his companion already gone.
Jason marked the nautical chart while jotting down the results of his observations in his notebook.
Perhaps it was due to the newbie protection period, but apart from the large rich mining area he encountered when he first went out to sea to pan for gold, Jason had only encountered places with a maximum yield of less than twenty ounces.
This is normal, since the main method of gold panning in the Bering Sea is to separate gold from gold-bearing sand and gravel.
Jason is practically the only person in the entire Bering Sea who specializes in panning for gold in rich gold mines.
Time flies, and after spending five whole days at sea, Jason decided to return home.
With food and water supplies exhausted and fuel running low, the Bering Sea was surprisingly calm, allowing many gold prospectors to reap good rewards.
As he stepped onto the dock, Brent sighed, "It's so much more comfortable ashore."
On the radio, they received news that Jason was returning home; his mother, Lillian, was already waiting for him at the port.
They loaded the felt blankets and some plastic buckets filled with gold sand into the pickup truck and headed straight for the separation warehouse.
Jason already knew the result and wasn't that excited. All he wanted to do was take a nice shower and get some sleep.
After five days at sea, my clothes smelled sour.
Brent, however, was preoccupied with his share and had no intention of taking a break.
