Chapter 22: Jason's First Filming Experience
Chapter 22: Jason's First Filming Experience
"What's going on?"
Brent was startled when he saw the camera pointed at him from the shoulder.
Andy ran his fingers through his hair, flashed a bright smile at the camera, pulled Jason aside, and whispered, "Jason, you really agreed to participate in that gold rush show?"
"Yes," Jason nodded.
Many people have heard about the show, especially at this time, and many people are disgusted by it.
"Tsk," Andy clicked his tongue, asking curiously, "Did you get paid?"
"Ha!" This question really stumped Jason. He just wanted to use the show to boost his fame, and he really hadn't thought of this.
"I didn't want it," Jason stroked his chin, "but I can ask around for you, it shouldn't be a big problem."
As for Brent, after talking with the photographer, he acted very rigidly and seemed unnatural in everything he did.
"Um, Jason, could you please have your crew act a little more naturally?"
Jason's assistant, Cass, asked for help, explaining that they were making a documentary, not a show, and that they needed authenticity.
"Cass, I want to ask you something," Jason pulled Cass away from the camera. "Cass, we're going to be on a show, right?"
Cass nodded, unsure of what Jason meant.
"That's right, I don't mind, but as you've probably noticed, my two crew members aren't used to cameras."
"Also, my crew would like to ask how much the program cost them?"
Jason didn't hesitate and asked the question directly.
"This..." Cass was also at a loss. This was the first time they were trying this program, and everything was still a bit messy. He hesitated and said, "Wait a moment, I'll make a call."
"Okay, I understand."
The call ended quickly, and Cass said to Jason, "Jon asked me to apologize to you. He didn't think this through. Jon meant that your crew would receive 10,000 US dollars a month for the use of their likenesses."
"Of course, if it's less than a month, the fee will be paid proportionally."
"If you have new crew members joining the ship later, the same procedure will apply."
"Of course, Jason, we will pay you the same salary and benefits."
Jason couldn't help but gasp at the conditions Cass offered, "No wonder the production team is so rich."
Upon hearing Jason's words, Cass burst out laughing.
When Brent and Andy heard the price of the show's image rights, their smiles became much more natural.
Andy exclaimed, "I never thought I'd still be able to make money on TV shows even though I'm over thirty!"
Brent gave Jason a thumbs up and exclaimed excitedly, "Jason, you did a great job on that show!"
No one would complain about making more money, especially for Andy and Brent, this windfall was a pleasant surprise for them.
"Everyone, we'll be working together for the next period of time."
"We're here to cooperate with you. Just pretend the camera doesn't exist. Just act the same way you always do."
Whether it was Cass's advice that worked or because they had received the money, Brent and Andy relaxed quite a bit.
Set sail once again.
This time, however, the Lillian was followed by a speedboat.
Kass separated the two photographers, one following the subject and the other shooting from a distance.
When they reached public waters, they resumed their gold panning at their pace, and on the speedboat, photographer Schlein, after seeing Jason go into the sea, also put on diving equipment and followed him down.
The two met underwater and gave each other a thumbs up.
Jason used his exploration capabilities to walk along the seabed, but with a photographer around, he still had to pretend to be a photographer.
"Let's go southeast, let's move on to the next place."
Brent and Andy were used to Jason's way of working; they remained silent and steered the boat after Jason gave them directions.
If one place doesn't work, then try another.
The movement trajectory had no logic whatsoever.
The photography crew remained silent; their job was simply to record and capture the true situation.
Less than twenty minutes after exploring the seabed again, Jason surfaced, drew a map of the seabed, and said, "Brent, I won't say more, be careful."
"Jason, don't worry," Brent said, patting his chest as he assured him, having been eager to answer the question.
"Jason, could you explain your notes?"
Cass boarded the speedboat and waited for Jason to have a moment to ask him questions.
Jason was very curious about Jason's notebook, and every time he surfaced, Jason would write something down in the notebook.
He was very perceptive and realized that this was a tipping point.
"I see," Jason said, opening his notebook and pointing to the topographical map. "It's nothing major, just some underwater conditions and predictions."
"Based on my own exploration findings, combined with nautical charts and ocean currents, I will then deduce some possible locations on the seabed where gold may accumulate."
"Of course, this isn't entirely accurate."
Jason was talking nonsense, and it sounded somewhat reasonable, but only those in the know understood how difficult it would be to fully put what Jason said into practice.
As a layman, Cass only felt a sense of awe and wonder.
As a successful figure on the Bering Sea, his words are always believed.
Nowadays, gold prospectors rely mainly on experience, and even more so on superstition.
Although Cass was an amateur, he still had a basic understanding of the gold-mining experience of the gold miners in the Bering Sea. Jason's words at this moment made him seem even more professional.
Andy, who was experienced in gold mining, remained silent.
Perhaps only those who have actually panned for gold in the Bering Sea know how outrageous Jason's words are.
The cameraman was also very good at capturing the moment, capturing Jason's eloquent talk and the gold in the gold vat.
Once you find a spot and start panning for gold, it can be quite boring.
Andy and Brent took turns diving, while Cass leaned close to Jason again and asked, "Jason, is this how you guys always work?"
"Yes, our division of labor is very clear," Jason nodded. "I'm in charge of finding the location, and they're in charge of the washing work."
On the seabed, Brent stopped his gold-absorbing pump and said to Jason through the walkie-talkie, "Jason, the spot you marked is ready for washing."
"Come on up."
Cass suddenly felt a toothache.
He didn't understand gold panning, but he at least knew that if gold appeared in one place, there would definitely be plenty in the surrounding area as well. Who knew it would just stop like that?!
"Jason, aren't we going to continue?" Cass asked curiously.
"No need. Relying on the gold-absorbing pump is too expensive and not worth it," Jason explained, while simultaneously speaking into the walkie-talkie in the cabin: "This is the Lillian. The Albert has received a response."
"Albert received, this is Ada."
"Ada, I'll send you the coordinates in a bit."
"Okay, Ada, same as always, I'll talk to Dad."
"Can"
Having worked together before, Ada understood Jason's meaning.
Jason and his crew didn't linger either. Some of the smaller gold-digging boats, upon seeing the photographer on Jason's boat, also set sail and left.
Cass asked in confusion, "Jason, who were you just now...?"
"My dad has a gold-digging ship, so let them keep mining here," Jason explained briefly.
"Jason, I've found your cameras to be incredibly useful!" Brent laughed heartily, especially when the gold prospectors came in happily and left grumbling. Brent was practically applauding Jason's decision.
Andy stroked his stubble and chuckled, "Looks like we'll need to buy two cameras when we go gold panning in the future."
For most gold prospectors, gold is what they are after, and they don't want to be filmed and ridiculed on TV.
"Andy, your suggestion is good, but we don't need to buy it right now," Jason laughed at their reactions, pointing at Cass and the others.
Panning for gold on a ship is inherently tedious.
When the two photographers were shooting on the ship, both Andy and Brent would chat with them.
The photographers wanted to understand the gold rush, while Andy and his friends wanted to understand the photographers' work.
Andy and Brent even got their hands on the camera.
The group gradually became acquainted, exchanging jokes, eating fast food, smoking the cigars Andy had brought, and chatting casually.
The two photographers and Cass remained silent while Jason and his team worked, minimizing their presence and trying to make Jason and his team ignore the photography.
