Chapter 28: Corinna Becomes a Hyena
Chapter 28: Corinna Becomes a Hyena
"Link, have you found the gold yet?" Corinna asked anxiously, holding the walkie-talkie.
"Corinna, there's gold down there!!!" Link's words made Corinna clench her fist and shout it out.
"Yes, I knew it."
She doesn't care about her reputation, especially not at this time.
Gold, she only cares about gold.
"Link, we need to hurry!" Corinna shouted into the walkie-talkie.
Link, underwater, was also diligently absorbing the gold, and managed to reply in a moment, "Corinna, I know."
Corinna is on the verge of bankruptcy.
Link's gold-mining team was disbanded.
Both of them saw the remaining time of the gold rush season as an opportunity to turn their lives around.
Now that the opportunity is in front of them, they have no time to waste.
Besides Corinna's small boat, a number of gold-hunting hyenas also appeared around the Albert and Hart ships, drawn by the news.
Even though getting close to the large gold-digging ship was dangerous, they didn't care about that anymore.
The photographers on the Corinna ship recorded all of this.
……
Meanwhile, Jason was also using his detection abilities to search for gold mining sites.
In Andy and Brent's view, Jason's efficiency was incredibly high, even frightening. Wherever they went, Jason was always the first to go into the sea and then find gold.
This is definitely not something that can be explained by luck.
But on the open sea, there is almost no difference in appearance; it looks the same no matter how you look at it.
"Jason, how exactly did you find the gold?" Andy couldn't hold back any longer. If he could barely accept Jason's explanation before, this situation made no sense at all.
"You think I've been resting these past few days? I've been recording the ocean currents in the Bering Sea."
"Let's combine our past gold-mining experience with a comparison of the gold-mining locations in our family."
"Obviously, my thinking is correct, isn't it?"
Jason made it up off the top of his head. There were indeed excavation sites within the family, but they didn't play a significant role in the overall operation.
Andy "..."
Andy smacked his lips and rolled his eyes. What a joke! He wasn't stupid. Only a fool would believe such obvious nonsense.
But you can't say anything, since Jason's argument is so reasonable and well-founded.
A slight ripple appeared on the sea, causing the Lillian to sway gently.
The atmosphere on the ship was quiet and awkward, especially for Andy. He decided that if he ever encountered a similar situation again, he would never speak up again.
As long as Jason can find gold and get his share, why worry about anything else!
……
After excavating another location, Brent and Andy packed up the gold trough and felt.
"My God, Jason, we've hit the jackpot this time!"
"Shit, shit, there are so many!!!"
When the countless tiny gold fragments, each the size of a fingernail, appeared before their eyes in the gold-plating trough, the two could no longer contain their astonishment and exclaimed.
Detection range: 15 meters (upgradeable: 1 meter for every 100 ounces)
[Detection depth: 15 meters (upgradeable to 100 ounces, or 1 meter higher)]
Estimated weight: 145.7 ounces (including 13% impurities)
[Upgradeable gold ounces: 156.85 ounces]
[Note: Gold does not absorb energy; it is only used for upgrading purposes, and its value remains unaffected.]
[Note: Only gold discovered through exploration using one's own methods is of useful value.]
Jason was also unable to contain his excitement.
Unlike Andy and Brent's excitement, Jason was thrilled that his first achievement after upgrading his abilities was perfect.
The three carefully rolled up the felt and meticulously cleaned it in the plastic bucket.
The gold in the gold plating tank was carefully brushed off with a small brush and put into a plastic bucket.
A photographer on the side was recording the scene, and the glittering gold caught his eye, making his breathing quicken.
After everything was packed up, Jason took the boat back into the water.
They traveled and stopped frequently along the way. Although there might not be much gold in each place, the gold on the ship accumulated from multiple locations.
The Bering Sea turned hostile again after only three days at sea.
Strange weather appeared out of nowhere; dark clouds rolled in and quickly covered the area.
"Return to base"
Jason made a quick decision: the gold was right here; they could always come back another time.
Andy and Brent did not object. Although there was no wind, who knew what might happen in a moment? It was better to be on the safe side.
After securing the equipment, the Lillian returned to port.
Along the way, gold-digging boats of all sizes were returning home, clearly indicating that the events of the previous period had made many people hesitant to take any chances.
"Damn it, this awful weather!"
"Tarot, didn't you say you were going to die in the Bering Sea? Why did you turn back?"
"Damn it, I'm not stupid, I'm not going to go looking for death."
……
Over the radio, the gold prospectors chatted and joked with each other.
The three days allowed them to gain something, more or less, but the weather on the Bering Sea still left them dissatisfied.
"Jason, Jason, over here!" Corinna waved to Jason as she returned to base.
His tone was relaxed, and he had a smile on his face, clearly in a good mood.
Jason replied with a smile, "Corinna, you seem to be in a good mood."
When Jason saw the cameraman following Corinna, he knew that his suggestion had been accepted by the production team.
The lively, cheerful, and efficient Corinna of the past is back.
"Jason, I'm certainly in a good mood, but I think you guys are in an even better mood," Corinna said meaningfully, her beautiful eyes fixed on the plastic buckets Andy and the others were carrying.
"It's alright," Jason chuckled, pointing to the dark clouds overhead. "Let's hurry up and go; I don't want to get soaked."
I've gotten to know Link. Although his name sounds like that of a Chinese person, he's actually a true American.
After chatting for a few minutes, the group got into the car and headed straight for the separation plant.
There are even more people today, and in the days when gold panning is impossible in the Bering Sea, Albert's gold panning ship is also under repair.
Although many people gave up on gold panning this year, many who waited still reaped their rewards.
After his previous show of success, Jason didn't go in this time. He left with Andy and Brent, intending to rest and wash up first.
As expected, a heavy rain poured down, with large raindrops pattering against the ground.
There was no wind, but it was pouring rain, and as far as the eye could see, there was a white curtain of rain.
The unpredictable Bering Sea is a source of both love and hate for gold prospectors.
Corinna and the others separated quickly; by the time Jason and the others had finished washing up and gathered together, they had already separated.
36.8 ounces.
The results were substantial, arguably Corinna's most successful day this year. Although it was short-lived, it was enough to excite Corinna.
The group gathered at a small tavern in a familiar spot, but unlike before, Link was there and Eric had left.
Brent, Eric's friend, usually appears carefree, but he was rather sullen at this moment.
He had spoken with Eric, who wanted to join Jason's ship, but now it's simple, there's no place for him on board.
Eric understood, but the result was that he left the Bering Sea and now works as a lumberjack.
Everyone has their own destiny. Sometimes he couldn't help but wonder if he and Eric had switched places back then, would he be the one leaving the Bering Sea now?
The newly joined Link is also very talkative, with a humorous tone that brightens the atmosphere.
He was quite interested in Jason, who was younger than him but already had a formidable reputation on the Bering Sea, especially since it was rumored that Jason had never experienced a single failure since he set sail.
Link didn't want to find out Jason's gold-mining methods; he was just curious about Jason.
Inside the bar, as more and more people braved the rain to arrive, the atmosphere gradually became more lively. For many, today was a day worth celebrating.
Andy ran into an acquaintance, picked up his wine glass, and walked over, ready to have a hearty drink.
But his idea was quickly and ruthlessly interrupted by Jason.
Jason sipped a few beers, chatted with the group for a while, patted Brent on the shoulder, gave him a wink, and pulled Andy, who was happily drinking, to his feet.
Andy wasn't angry at being interrupted while drinking; their golden bond hadn't been broken yet!
