Chapter 45: Rest and Reorganization in the Small Town
Chapter 45: Rest and Reorganization in the Small Town
"I have another alternative location, but it requires bidding," Ronaldo breathed a sigh of relief and marked the location on the map.
He originally didn't want to reveal this location, but if he didn't, his reputation would be ruined.
"An auction?" Jason asked疑惑地. "Is there anything special about this place?"
Swail glanced at the marked location, shook his head, and said, "I know this location too, but it's special because it's next to a large gold mine."
"According to the findings of professionals and some exploration companies, this should be an ancient riverbed with a considerable gold content."
"But precisely because of this, many mining companies are very interested in this land."
Ronaldo gave an awkward smile and nodded in response to Jason's gaze.
Jason was speechless. What kind of weird places were these recommendations? They were either hard to mine or deep in the mountains, and now there was an auction!
"Let's go outside first, we'll talk about it then," Jason sighed, feeling utterly exhausted.
As the car drove along the mountain road, mud and water splashed as the tires rolled over the surface.
The atmosphere was somewhat somber, and even Ellie, who had been bouncing around, sensed it and sat quietly.
The car drove back to the main road, found a nearby city on the map, and headed straight there.
It's been three days since we left Bendigo, and we've been constantly on the move. We still haven't decided on our next destination, so we might as well take a break.
The town is small, but the scenery is beautiful.
The leaves rustled in the breeze, and the fragrance of trees and grass wafted through the air, making everyone feel much more relaxed.
Birds chirped and sang among the trees, and kangaroos could be seen running around in the distance, chewing on something.
As we drove into the town, the streets were very clean, and the people walking by seemed relaxed and unhurried.
Leisurely and unhurried.
Many children were laughing and playing on the lawn in front of the house.
The town's architecture is quite simple, mostly wooden structures, two-story buildings with black tiled roofs, and the wood underneath is simply coated with a layer of clear varnish to show its natural wood color.
Without the noise of the city and with so many cars, it was very quiet and peaceful.
After driving across a small bridge, you can see many ducks playing and swimming in the water, quacking loudly.
The stream is shallow and very clear; you can see the seaweed swaying gently with the current, and small fish swimming among it.
Arriving at a hotel, they parked the car in a parking space, and everyone got out, looking slightly tired.
The hotel is small, with a retro architectural style and many handmade decorations hanging on the walls, giving it a unique charm.
After checking into their rooms, the first thing everyone did was take a shower. Everyone who had come down from the mountain was covered in sweat and stench, their feet were muddy, and their clothes were covered in leaves.
After washing up, everyone gathered at the restaurant and ordered some of their favorite dishes.
"Jason, I've connected you with a landlord who lives not far from here. You can go check him out later," Swail said while eating.
Jason turned to look at Swell, his eyes filled with surprise. He hadn't expected Swell to have confirmed the location again in such a short time.
Ronaldo's lips twitched slightly, his face showing astonishment.
"Okay, let's rest for two days first, and then we'll go over there." Jason didn't ask about the situation here anymore; he would only know the details once he saw it for himself.
While Jason was engrossed in his meal, Ronaldo gritted his teeth and whispered, "Swell, you were that fast?!"
"There's nothing I can do about it. I'm getting older, so I know a lot of people," Swell said with a mocking smile. What professional tour guide? They're all just kids.
"Oh"
There was nothing they could do but feel resentful; it was all because that old bastard lacked any sense of martial ethics.
After dinner, Jason talked about the upcoming schedule, and then they dispersed in twos and threes.
"Jason, let's go to a bar. I've already asked the waiter," Brent invited, with Andy, the alcoholic, and little Hart, along with his brother Ada, by his side.
It's only 05 now. Although the internet exists, it's not nearly as developed as it will be in later years.
The most common form of entertainment is bars.
"I'm not going, you guys have fun." Jason has never been a fan of alcohol, at most he'll have a beer.
Moreover, they were all prepared, and asking themselves was merely out of politeness.
Of course, Jason wouldn't just stay in the hotel; he planned to wander around the town and enjoy the scenery.
Along the street, Jason, like a tourist, kept looking around and walked slowly.
Many locals were curious about Jason, a stranger, but remained wary.
Arriving at the creek, Jason lay down on the grass and gazed at the azure sky through the gaps in the leaves.
Although he hasn't been in Australia for long, the series of setbacks has made Jason need to think things through.
A breeze blows, carrying the fresh scent of grass and trees.
Jason pressed his right arm to his forehead, let out a long breath, and his hair swayed in the wind.
The whole scene is as beautiful as a painting.
His advantage is obvious: he has detection capabilities, so all he needs to do is find places where gold is concentrated.
However, the drawbacks are also obvious. Land-based gold panning is much more professional than sea-based gold panning. There are too many factors involved, such as sampling and exploration, forecasting, topographic maps, funding, manpower, equipment, and so on.
The funds weren't a lot, but they weren't little either.
We have manpower; if not, we can find more.
Equipment, that's not a problem.
Gold is something he doesn't need to worry about the least, as he has the capability to detect it.
But the biggest problem now is that there's no space!
While modern machinery may not be as accurate as Jason's detection capabilities, it can still easily distinguish which areas are of high gold content, which has led to the current awkward situation.
The best spots are almost all taken.
In terms of capital, they can't compete with large mining companies at all, but small mines don't have much gold content.
This is a dilemma, and one that Jason must resolve.
After comparing his situation comprehensively, Jason's anxiety subsided considerably, and he also realized his biggest problem.
He became arrogant, though he didn't show it, he was certain that he had become arrogant.
In my past life, I was a corporate slave with a meager salary. My greatest happiness was having a good meal after receiving my paycheck. But now, I'm dissatisfied with earning less money when I see gold.
If he hadn't witnessed so much of the coldness and cruelty of human relationships in his past life, he probably wouldn't have realized it even now.
"Looks like I need to make some adjustments," Jason muttered to himself.
Having figured it out, Jason felt much more relaxed. He stood up, brushed the grass clippings off his clothes, and walked into the town.
Passing by a roadside stall, Jason ordered some snacks, sat down at a roadside table, and looked around at everything.
"Big brother, is this delicious?" A little girl, with her thumb in her mouth, looked longingly at Jason, who was eating snacks.
"Here, have some." He ruffled the little girl's hair and handed her the snacks.
"Thank you, big brother."
The girl thanked them, took the snacks, and skipped and hopped after her group of friends.
"Thank you. That was my sister. I didn't expect her to be so greedy. I just paid for your meal, so it's on me," a woman said as she walked up to Jason.
Before Jason could speak, the woman had vanished, leaving Jason with only a fleeting glimpse of her golden hair.
"Well, I've saved money on another meal," Jason said, shaking his head with amusement.
I packed up the snacks, ordered a coffee, paid for the coffee, and started strolling around the town.
The town is small, with only a few dozen households, but the scenery is nice, and you can see a few tourists carrying bags and taking pictures.
Entering a postcard shop, the owner, an elderly man, was smiling and introducing the postcards to tourists.
After looking around and satisfying my curiosity, I nodded to the shop owner as a greeting.
Walking down the street, it was nearing evening, and the afterglow of the setting sun fell on Jason's face.
He would occasionally sip coffee and eat a snack.
Jason was incredibly relaxed, just like a local, which even attracted several backpackers who came up to him for directions.
When the streetlights came on, Jason returned to the hotel.
Mother Lillian and Ellie had gone to bed early, while little Hart and the others were probably still having fun at the bar.
Albert and old Hart went off together, I don't know where they went.
The three of them, Cass and his colleague, worked the hardest, constantly carrying the camera and operating it, with very little time to rest.
As Jason passed by Swail and Ronaldo's room, he heard them arguing inside. He walked slowly, trying not to make a sound and disturb them.
