Chapter 32 Zachary the Informant
Chapter 32 Zachary the Informant
Roman was in a good mood, admiring the scenery of the garden as he walked toward the morgue, when he suddenly saw two security guards running toward him in a panic.
"What happened?" Roman asked in a deep voice.
One person quickly explained:
"An outsider broke into the morgue, and the morgue assistant told us to handle it."
"Damn it!" Roman cursed, his first thought being that Richard had called the security guard.
Gang members have infiltrated; they might want to do something to the corpse.
"What kind of work are you doing? How could you let someone in? Several of the bodies are important evidence for the police! Get them out of here right now, they might be armed!"
"Yes, sir!" The security guard hurriedly pulled out his pistol, bypassed Roman, and ran quickly toward the morgue.
They also knew that things were not peaceful in New York these days.
Roman's heart pounded, and he jogged after the two of them.
For the past few days, the New York gangs have been fighting non-stop for some unknown reason.
The bodies of three members of the Ghost Shadow Gang are now lying in the morgue. Who knows what big case they're involved in? Gang members even dared to break into the Nancy Health Center for these bodies!
The thought of gangsters causing trouble in the morgue gave Roman a headache. How could those incompetent security personnel let gangsters in!
If I damage the evidence, how am I supposed to explain it to the NYPD inspector?
What's more troublesome is that some of the corpses in the morgue cannot be exposed to the light.
It's fine if they don't check normally, but once they start a formal investigation, who knows how much trouble it will cause.
And Richard, please don't get into trouble, otherwise how am I going to explain this to Brian!
Roman broke out in a cold sweat.
Two security guards, eager to impress Roman, sprinted into the morgue, pistols in hand, shouting:
"Who! Who's causing trouble here!"
Sutton pointed at Richard and shouted:
"That's him! Arrest him!"
The security guards were stunned.
"Yellow race?"
Richard looked very young, was clean and tidy, had no tattoos, and had a kind and unassuming face.
Are you kidding me? You're saying he's a gang member?
If the person is Black, security will empty the magazine at any time.
But when he saw a person of Asian descent, he hesitated.
Moreover, the other party was very calm and did not seem like they had broken in.
"Who are you?" the security guard asked hesitantly.
Richard calmly replied:
"I am a morgue assistant."
Sutton angrily said:
"I've worked here for five years, how come I didn't know you were a morgue assistant?"
The security personnel recognized Sutton and could only point a pistol at Richard, saying:
"OK! Now I understand. Sir, this is private property, please leave immediately!"
Just then, Roman came running up to the morgue door, panting heavily.
As soon as he entered, he saw two security guards pointing guns at Richard, and his mind went blank.
WTF!
What are you doing!
Let him go right now, you bunch of idiots!
He tried to stop the security personnel, but his body, which hadn't been active for years, was panting heavily, and he pointed at Richard in a panic, unable to speak.
Upon seeing Roman, Sutton eagerly offered his complaint:
"Dean, Brown skipped his shift and even dared to make this Asian guy cover for him!"
Richard shrugged:
"Mr. Roman, I explained and mentioned your name, but he didn't believe me."
Huh? This reaction isn't right. Sutton was somewhat bewildered by Richard's attitude towards Roman.
The two security guards exchanged a glance. Richard recognized Roman's tone of voice; they probably knew each other.
They didn't understand why a morgue assistant could know Roman, but they absolutely couldn't afford to offend the director's people.
The two men quietly lowered the muzzle of their pistols.
Roman finally caught his breath and said angrily:
"I already informed HR last night that Richard is the new morgue assistant, didn't you know? And all of you! Put your guns down right now!"
The two security guards realized it was a misunderstanding, so they immediately put away their guns, smiled obsequiously at Richard, and cursed Sutton inwardly.
That jerk!
It made us make a mistake in front of the dean!
Sutton and his men were dumbfounded, and stammered:
"I asked Kalim..."
Just then, Brown rushed to the morgue and saw Roman standing at the door. His heart sank.
Two security guards were standing next to Richard, and they were holding guns!
This is troublesome!
If taken seriously, Richard's trespassing on private property could potentially lead to legal trouble.
Brown was filled with guilt and quickly explained:
"Mr. Roman, let me explain! I asked Richard to cover my shift yesterday, he didn't break in, and I'm willing to take responsibility!"
Roman waved his hand impatiently:
"You don't need to explain. Richard is fine. He was just a new morgue assistant."
Huh? Brown was dumbfounded. Richard was an assistant? What was going on?
Richard smiled at Brown, looking relaxed.
Just then, Karim called again:
"Sutton, have you gotten rid of that Richard kid yet?"
Sutton's face darkened, and he whispered:
"Mr. Roman has arrived... Richard is the new morgue assistant."
Karim said angrily:
"Are you kidding me? How come I didn't know there was a new person?"
Roman snatched the phone:
"You idiot, come see me right now! The police inspector is coming today, why aren't you here yet!"
Snapped!
Roman hung up the phone and apologized to Richard:
"I'll handle things here. It's just a misunderstanding, don't worry about it."
Richard nodded and added another explanation for Brown:
"Okay, Mr. Roman, I'll leave this to you. Brown did have an emergency yesterday, so I switched shifts with him."
Brown looked at Richard blankly, while Richard spoke to Roman as if they were two acquaintances.
That shouldn't be the case.
Roman waved his hand:
"I know, you told me yesterday."
This resolved the potential problems arising from Brown's unauthorized shift change.
The two security guards' faces darkened, and they glared at Sutton.
The matter has been settled; it was a misunderstanding. Moreover, Richard was very familiar with the dean, yet he pointed a gun at Richard!
It's all that bastard Sutton's fault!
Richard glanced at Sutton, turned and left, preparing to visit the Church of St. Carlisle.
Fuck! Sutton finally realized that this yellow-skinned guy really was one of Roman's men!
He had to apologize to Richard:
"No, no, I'm sorry, Richard, I think there might be some misunderstanding here."
Richard said calmly:
"No problem, you're very responsible."
That doesn't sound like a nice thing to say... Sutton shuddered.
Roman looked terrible; it was so damn embarrassing!
It's one thing to be embarrassed inside the hospital, but the main problem is that Richard is Brian's man, and he might bring up this "funny story" with Brian someday.
The dean of a prestigious institution assigned a part-time staff member, and no one even knew about it. Who would believe that if word got out?
Could Brian interpret this as Roman deliberately making things difficult for Richard and disrespecting him?
Even if Brian didn't think that way, wouldn't he think Roman was a good-for-nothing who couldn't even manage a small matter of personnel and wasn't worth cultivating?
That would have endless consequences!
Roman looked at Sutton with a cold expression.
And that Karim!
Richard had clearly mentioned his name, but that idiot Sutton didn't even bother to verify it with the HR department. He completely ignored it. Where does he put himself as the dean?
Sutton's Terrifying Tunnel:
"Mr. Roman, this is all a misunderstanding..."
Being a morgue assistant may sound low-status, but the job is easy, stressful, and the pay is quite good.
He's already in his forties. If he loses his job, he won't be able to find a better one anytime soon, and he won't be able to afford the property taxes and car loan payments...
……
The rain poured down.
Zachary stood shivering in a dilapidated house on the street corner, a cigarette laced with spice dangling from his mouth.
He hadn't eaten all day and had planned to go to the church to get some relief food, but it was raining heavily, and he only had one dry piece of clothing, so he could only get by by smoking all day.
Zachary huddled in a corner, puffing away with a few companions.
Suddenly, a burly figure in a raincoat rushed into the house and, soaked to the bone, slammed Zachary against the wall.
"FXXK!" Upon seeing this, his companions scattered in panic, rushing into the heavy rain and disappearing from sight.
Zachary promptly raised his hand:
"Hey! Hey! Bro! What did I do to offend you? I apologize!"
He lifted his rain hat, revealing Mike's sharp eyes.
Zachary breathed a sigh of relief, but then tensed up again:
"Mike, let me explain. I didn't mean to avoid you, I just..."
Before the words were even finished, bang!
A heavy punch landed on Zachary's stomach.
