Chapter 48 The Second-Year Senior
Chapter 48 The Second-Year Senior
Monday was another sunny day.
The air was exceptionally fresh after the rain, and even the smell of car exhaust in New York was much fainter.
Richard drove his beat-up, secondhand Chevrolet to the parking lot of Francis Lewis High School.
As soon as I got off the bus, I was blocked by two girls:
"Hey Richard, my name is Madeline. Do you have a girlfriend?"
Richard sized up Madeline, who appeared to be a twelfth-grade student. Her figure was quite mature, an advantage for a white girl.
Hot pants tightly hugged her youthful hips.
The other girl wasn't as voluptuous, but her features combined Latina and Caucasian characteristics, giving her a unique charm.
Richard said with a smile:
"no."
Madeline, seeing Richard's gaze, showed no embarrassment; instead, she deliberately thrust her hips forward.
"I'm having a party at my house this weekend, wanna come?"
Before Richard could speak, Debbie pounced on him like a mad cat:
"Bitch! What are you doing?"
The two girls glared at Debbie disdainfully and snorted.
Every girl knows the cheerleader.
However, the two women were not flustered at all. Madeline slipped a note into Richard's pants pocket, waved her hand near her ear as if making a phone call, and left with a flirtatious wink.
"You're not my girlfriend, what's it to you?" Richard smiled and took out the note, which also smelled sweet.
Debbie snatched it away angrily:
"You've wronged Catherine!"
Richard didn't care at all; he had already memorized the number anyway.
"You admit I'm your father?"
"Don't even think about it!" Debbie gritted her teeth.
"I'll tell Catherine about what happened today!"
"Whatever, she'll just remind me to be careful." Richard walked toward the school gate.
"You shameless bastard!" Debbie followed relentlessly behind him.
"Those are just two filthy cesspools!"
"Dirtier than peeing in your car?"
Debbie quickly covered Richard's mouth:
"We told you not to mention this again!"
"Okay." Richard smiled, took a few steps, and then asked:
"And then what? Did Catherine end up letting you wash her car?"
Debbie shrieked:
"I told you! Don't mention it again!"
Richard's eyes turned cold.
Debbie's heart skipped a beat.
For some reason, Richard's eyes were brighter than before, which made her feel uneasy.
Richard smiled slightly and walked towards the school gate with his schoolbag on his back.
The students who were queuing for security checks quickly made way when they saw Richard arrive.
Richard walked into the school gate with the air of a school bully.
The security gate emitted another metallic screeching sound.
Richard took out his car keys and shook them.
The gatekeeper said with a smile:
"I heard you hit David a few days ago?"
That's pretty outdated information.
Richard shrugged:
"I didn't hit him, he just had his old habit kick in."
"A cunning Easterner." The doorman shrugged, then, seeing Debbie following Richard with a sullen face, he raised his fist at Richard and said enviously:
"Well done, kid!"
Richard exchanged punches with him.
Brandon had been waiting at the door for a long time, and rushed over enthusiastically as soon as he saw Richard:
"Hey! I heard you guys went to the Stinger bar and got arrested? Cool! Why didn't you take me?"
Richard was speechless.
"Who told you I was arrested?"
"Hey! Your photos are everywhere online! Debbie was drugged, and you were holding her in the back seat! The driver is Debbie's mom, and oh my god, you actually held Debbie in front of her mom! How brave!"
Debbie's face darkened:
"Don't mention that damn car!"
Another Black student joined in:
"I heard you guys got kidnapped at the bar, and David even got beaten up?"
Brandon's eyes were full of excitement:
"That was so exciting! Next time something like this happens, make sure you take me!"
Richard, too lazy to explain that he hadn't been arrested, simply sighed:
"Study hard and don't let your mind wander."
Brandon didn't listen at all and just gestured a few times:
"Didn't you use your kung fu to take them all down and let them know they've messed with a kung fu master?"
Richard's lips twitched:
"They have guns."
"That's true. No matter how good your kung fu is, you're still afraid of a gun."
Richard watched as Brandon's legs trembled; he must have been practicing his horse stance for quite some time.
"You know that, yet you still practice?"
Brandon said firmly:
"Kung Fu is my dream. My parents support me."
"Do your parents still support your martial arts training?"
"Yay! It's better than selling drugs on the street, right?"
Well, Brandon isn't stupid. Richard shrugged.
None of the boys from lower-class Black families are completely stupid, otherwise they wouldn't have lived to this age.
Brandon chatted with Richard until they reached the classroom door, then followed Richard straight into the classroom, loudly proclaiming:
"When will I be able to develop a sense of Qi?"
The boys around them burst out laughing:
"The Kung Fu Kid is back again."
"Brandon wants to get into the octagon!"
......
Richard reluctantly gave a perfunctory reply:
"When you've mastered it."
"What is qi sensation?"
"Once you've mastered it, you'll know what Qi is." Richard had no idea what Qi sensation was.
"Hey, let's get serious." Brandon changed the subject again:
"You saved Congressman Anderson that day, did you contact him afterwards?"
Why contact him?
"He's a congressman!"
Richard asked curiously.
Brandon said:
"Suck up to him a bit, and you can get a decent letter of recommendation. Don't you want to go to Princeton?"
"Huh? He actually thinks he can get into Princeton?" Tang Yuqing walked past her coldly.
Richard was puzzled. He couldn't understand why Tang Yuqing was so hostile towards him. He said in Chinese:
Are you crazy?
Tang Yuqing's expression changed, but before she could speak, Brandon chimed in, showing no mercy to Tang Yuqing:
"How dare you speak to my master like that? Shut up! If it weren't for my master being there yesterday, you would have been gang-raped by those people."
Facing a native-born American, Tang Yuqing felt inferior from the start and dared not argue back, timidly saying:
"They won't. Those two black men were just trying to scare me."
Tang Yuqing was a little nervous. If her classmates found out that she had almost been gang-raped by black men, no one would pursue her anymore, and they wouldn't invite her to parties. She would become the laughing stock of the whole school.
Tang Yuqing never expected that the two black gatekeepers would be bisexual, beating up David and then starting to grope her.
Also, Brandon didn't go that day. Who told him about it?
"No way?" Brandon scoffed.
"In my neighborhood, someone gets shot almost every year. Do you think those people are any kind of saints?"
"No! You're lying to me!" Tang Yuqing didn't believe it at all.
Although the neighborhood where she lives is not an upscale community, her neighbors are all middle-class people with respectable jobs.
Tang Yuanfan usually introduced her to respectable business people. Tang Yuqing had grown up in a pink bubble, never having seen the reality of life on the lower rungs of society.
"That was just an accident; don't try to fool me with these urban rumors!"
Brandon said dismissively:
"Was that from drinking too much? That was from taking too many pills! You forgot about Debbie? She almost got... "
He was only halfway through his sentence when he saw Debbie's gloomy eyes, realized he had spoken out of turn, and fled in panic.
Debbie is his teacher's wife; he can't afford to offend her.
Serena and Susan squeezed in:
"Hey Debbie! Do you think those guys from Stinger Bar will cause us trouble yesterday?"
The incident at the Stinger bar left Susan with lingering fears.
She brought her classmate in; if anything happens, she bears the greatest responsibility.
Debbie said confidently:
"Don't worry, my dad will take care of them."
As she spoke, she felt that her words were a bit strange, and unconsciously glanced at Richard.
All the women were envious.
Having an NYPD sheriff as a father definitely provides a great sense of security.
The women were somewhat relieved.
Susan asked:
"Richard, has anyone been giving you trouble?"
Richard glanced at the spade tattoo on her ankle and said casually:
"no."
Serena lowered her voice:
"Hey Richard, this is no joke. I heard that the Stinger Bar is backed by the BG gang, and they're currently locked in a fierce battle with the Ghost Gang. They'll definitely come after you once they're free."
"What does this have to do with me? It was all Debbie's dad's doing." Richard decisively shirked responsibility.
"But you called Debbie's dad. Everyone knows you were the one who called the police."
Richard frowned:
"Where did the sound come from?"
"It's Mike, Debbie's father. He admitted it himself when he was being investigated by the IAB, and there's even a video of it online."
"Holy crap?" Richard was furious.
That Mike is dishonest!
I helped you save your daughter, and you turned around and sold me out?
At that moment, Catherine sent a message: "I almost forgot, Mike asked me to remind you that the BG gang might retaliate against you."
"I understand." Richard glanced at Debbie.
Mike, it looks like I really need to take it out on your wife and daughter!
Debbie felt a sudden unease, a vague sense of foreboding creeping over her.
