Chapter 100 Fighting the Demon
Chapter 100 Fighting the Demon
"Go on stage? What stage?" Jia asked innocently, a rare moment of naivety on her part.
"Of course, it's giving a speech on stage."
"Ah!" She was slightly taken aback, her pretty face freezing for a moment before she came to her senses. "I'm a woman, how could I possibly give a speech on stage? You're not joking, are you?"
Sure enough, her reaction was exactly as Luther had predicted.
However, Luther was not angry, but slowly explained:
"I know everything about the trouble you had in Wellesley, how they treated you."
"Luther... can we please stop talking about these unhappy things!"
Jia turned slightly to the side. Although she was still smiling, these subtle gestures indicated that she didn't really want to talk about it and was somewhat refusing to communicate.
She had been independent since childhood and had never asked anyone for help. She had always been on her own. Now that Luther had brought up her past in Wellesley, she felt ashamed and embarrassed. She wanted to leave a good impression on Luther.
Luther stood up, walked over, gently stroked Gia's hair, and said with a deep gaze:
"Jiya, do you know, there's a legend that's been passed down in my hometown."
"When a person faces the devil for the first time in their life, they can choose to run away or they can choose to face it; both are acceptable."
Jia didn't speak, she just nodded. The little bit of brightness that had just been brewing in her heart was instantly worn away.
If it weren't for her husband, her beloved Luther, standing before her, she probably would have turned and left.
Because it was Luther, she was willing to listen.
"And then what?"
"Later, those who choose to face it, those who muster the courage to confront it, those who even intend to fight it, will eventually discover that the so-called devil is nothing but a bluff. When you are fearless, these devils are nothing, but those who run away..."
"What will happen?"
Luther smiled and said, "Escape will certainly work, but time is limited. Before long, these demons will come back with a vengeance. This time, they will be even more terrifying and ferocious. If she chooses to continue to escape, the demons will become stronger with each encounter, and then you will never have another chance."
Gia was deeply moved, and the events of the past few days flashed through her mind as she murmured to herself.
"Luther, are you saying that if I don't face it, things will only get more and more complicated?"
Luther bluntly stated: "Yes, they will become your fears, the shadows you dread, and accompany you throughout your life."
"But Luther, there are too many of them, I can't fight them..."
"But you're not alone!" Luther paused before explaining.
"The reason these people dare to cause you trouble in Wellesley is simply because you are not strong enough. Even if they bully you, there will be no consequences. In addition, your father is running for office, so you are in trouble."
"But Luther, I'm very powerful." Gia's smile returned.
"Indeed, even I have to admit that you have a very strong heart. I can't even imagine how you've managed all these years. That's true strength. But this time, what I want you to pursue is not this kind of true strength, but superficial strength, that is, worldly strength."
"The power of the secular world?"
"Yes, in the end, it all comes down to fame and fortune." Luther paused, then continued to explain, "If you are kind and pure, they won't see it and will cause you trouble; if you are strong and independent, they still won't see it and will still cause you trouble; even if you do nothing, they won't be able to find old Joseph and will still cause you trouble. So, only when you truly master fame and fortune, and have these two weapons, will these people be afraid, and only then can you protect yourself and your family, and only then will others maintain their respect for you."
"And this time, with your father running for Congress, it's also an opportunity for you, do you understand?"
Jia didn't speak, but her restrained smile was enough to show that she had taken it to heart.
Admittedly, in society, especially in American society in this era, people are not made good by being kind; on the contrary, they are often bullied for being kind without any reason.
In such a jungle society, you either rely on your fists or your guns; there is no other way.
The idea that goodness and beauty can only exist in the heaven described in the Bible.
But even the priests themselves don't believe in those Bibles, so who can they possibly educate?
What ultimately allows people to transcend is not a priest's nagging, but bullets or dump trucks.
Luther was already building his own team, and of course he didn't want Gia to get into trouble, since he couldn't lead his men into Wellesley.
After a long silence, Gia nodded: "Luther, I'll listen to you."
"There's a campaign speech next Monday, the last one before the vote. I'll arrange for you to go on stage then. There's still time in the next few days, so you need to be prepared."
"But Luther, what if I don't explain it well?"
"If you're worried, I can replace the audience with our own people. We'll give each person a dollar or something, and if they scream until they faint, we'll give them five dollars. I guarantee there will be cheers, and someone might even faint from excitement. That'll be big news. What do you think?"
"I don't want to!!" With that, Jia stormed off.
Halfway there, she suddenly stopped, realized something, and then turned back to kiss her husband.
Luther's eight streams of true energy, which he had managed to suppress with great difficulty, began to surge wildly again. However, before he could react, Jia's silvery laughter rang out from not far away.
"I will do my best, my husband."
The next few days were uneventful. Due to business, Luther still needed to go to the company most of the day and spend time with Reynolds and the others.
The atmosphere in the company was harmonious, at least it wasn't affected by the election much, and everyone was doing what they were supposed to do.
After a period of adjustment, Paige became bolder and bolder, even engaging in flirtatious behavior towards Luther, such as changing her underwear in front of him.
She had a very distinctive face, both sweet and beautiful, irresistible to any man, but Luther thought her farts were too smelly and always kept his distance.
Alice also performed well. Even Neil Young had to admit that she was very suitable for the path of acting. As long as she accumulated one or two more works, she might become famous overnight.
Reynolds reported that the new equipment and studio worked very well, not only greatly speeding up the shooting process, but also producing excellent visuals and sound. Compared to shooting "Walden" before, there was almost no background noise now.
It's safe to say that this season of "The Sound of Music" will be even better.
"Boss, if all goes well, we can release this movie in winter, at the latest by Christmas."
"Alright, you've worked hard these past few days. Take good care of Reynolds, I won't treat you unfairly."
"You have already treated me very well, Mr. Luther."
