Chapter 22 Little Master
Chapter 22 Little Master
"Is that so?" Luther smiled.
"Really!" Johnny Kennedy exclaimed excitedly, as if he had discovered a treasure.
"The teachers at my school just make us read, memorize, and then it's practice and exams. But they never tell us why we're learning these things, or what the use of learning them is. History class is just memorizing dates, geography class is just memorizing place names, and math class is just endless arithmetic problems. I really hate it!"
"But brother-in-law, you're different. I understand everything you're saying, and I know why we need to study!"
The brother-in-law became more and more excited as he spoke, almost elevating Luther to a godlike status.
Who would have thought that someone like him, who failed the college entrance exam with a score of 67 in mathematics, would be hailed as a genius on the other side of the ocean a hundred years ago?
"Does it feel like my brain has been opened up?"
"Yes, yes, yes!" Little Kennedy nodded. "That's the feeling. It turns out that all those random things have a reason behind them, and that adults don't just say things casually. Most importantly, brother-in-law, you never treat me like a child; you talk to me like an adult."
These words made Luther's heart skip a beat.
Of the children living in the shadow of old Joseph, apart from the eldest brother-in-law who chose to extricate himself, the other three could not be considered particularly happy.
Especially John F. Kennedy Jr., although he is very young, his parents have already begun to plan his future path, which is none other than to study law at Harvard and go into politics in the future.
The pressure of being in politics is immense.
Under this pressure, both Gia and Kennedy Jr. matured quite early.
This is both a voluntary choice and a forced growth; humans are strange and powerful creatures, always able to adapt to the harshest environments.
Gia's independence and resilience, and Kennedy's ability to read people, are less a matter of talent and more a matter of self-imposed "evolution."
Who wouldn't want to live a carefree and innocent life? But most people simply don't have that kind of luck.
As for why Joseph Sr. wanted John F. Kennedy Jr. to study law at Harvard and go into politics in the future, the answer is obvious.
Chinese people understand that if wealth is to be passed down, it needs the protection of power. Americans understand this just as well.
If you want to make a small fortune, you can become a member of the House of Representatives or just get a job in the state government; there are plenty of opportunities.
But to make a fortune, you need to be in the Senate or go to the White House to have a chance.
In Europe and America, a family that has been around for a hundred years can only be called a wealthy family, while a family that has been around for a thousand years can be called a prestigious family.
Dynasties rise and fall, but powerful families remain.
This is what the blue-blooded nobles pursue.
Whether there could be a Huang Chao here, Luther didn't know; only later history would provide the answer.
As for young Kennedy, although the little guy was frail and sickly, often bedridden and unable to go out and play like normal children, the quality of his thinking was undeniable. At least at his age, Luther was no match for him.
For a child who is bedridden and unable to go out, his only weapon is his brain.
That's why, when it comes to learning, young Kennedy isn't afraid of anything complicated or in-depth; what he fears is something boring and superficial, and being treated like a child.
Luther's appearance filled this gap perfectly, allowing the little guy to thrive.
Luther smiled, found a chair and sat down, saying casually, "Of course, you're going to be a politician in the future, and the responsibilities on your shoulders are not light. You must learn to befriend the truth; that will be the foundation for your confidence to walk alone in the darkness in the future."
"But brother-in-law, why should I walk alone in the dark? I have family!" the little guy asked innocently.
"John, most of life is about walking alone in the abyss. Darkness is not accidental; darkness is the underlying color of this world."
Johnny Kennedy paused for a moment, not quite understanding the meaning of the sentence, but a seriousness beyond his years still appeared on his face.
"Brother-in-law, is the saying 'no investigation, no right to speak' a true statement?"
Luther nodded: "In politics, or for a nation, this is the origin of almost any truth."
"Brother-in-law, who said that? I've looked through many books and asked many people, but I can't find the source. I don't think it's Hegel, Kant, or Schopenhauer..."
After class yesterday, he went to look up information. He searched through European books, American books, and even Washington's books, but he still couldn't find it.
Of course, he did this to see if his brother-in-law was just like the teachers at school, casually using any book to fool people.
But the result was surprising: Luther's teachings are not actually found in current textbooks.
Upon hearing this, Luther paused, and after a moment, slowly said:
"This was said by a young man from the East."
"Eastern? Chinese or Japanese?" John F. Kennedy's eyes lit up.
He has a good understanding of geography. Although he has never been abroad, he has read articles about the Far East in the thick National Geographic magazines at home.
He knew perfectly well that at that time there was a country called China on the other side of the earth, as well as Japan, Korea, and the Soviet Far East.
Rumor has it that Secretary Hoover made a fortune of $400 million in Tianjin, China.
400 million!
How many brothels have they bought, how many harems have they built!
In addition, this guy also had good relationships with some high-ranking officials in the Beiyang government, and could come and go freely with them; otherwise, things wouldn't have gone so smoothly.
Luther shook his head: "Of course it's China. The Japanese wouldn't say something like that!"
"How old is the person who said that?"
"Probably in his thirties."
"Wow!" Johnny Kennedy almost jumped up, his eyes filled with admiration. "To be able to say such profound and insightful things at such a young age, this young man is extraordinary. Can I meet him?"
"Don't worry, there will be other opportunities in the future."
Luther wasn't exaggerating; there really will be opportunities in the future.
According to the current development path of this great era, an economic crisis will break out in two years, followed by the rise of Germany, a major European war, and finally a global conflict.
The shining figures of this era will eventually be brought to the stage.
Young people in the East are, and so is John F. Kennedy Jr.
Perhaps in a few years, in a faraway place, perhaps Qingdao, perhaps Hokkaido, perhaps Havana, the two of them will sit together smoking, drinking, and talking about women.
However, by then, there was one more thing Luther had to do: take good care of the so-called four major families of the Republic of China.
Therefore, he also needed power and needed someone in the Kennedy family to be involved in politics.
John F. Kennedy Jr. made a note of it; he liked intelligent people, insightful people, people who could see the truth of the world at a young age.
Because he also wants to become that kind of person.
Although the process is arduous, once a person understands why he lives, he can probably endure any suffering in the world.
