Chapter 356: Written Test
Chapter 356: Written Test
After everyone had finished registering, the staff distributed a Communication Wristwatch to each person.
Since they also had to hand over their wrist-mounted computers, all notifications during the upcoming exam would be issued through these Communication Wristwatches.
Of course, the Communication Wristwatches also had positioning and monitoring functions, making them a powerful tool for preventing cheating.
Lin Xinghai took a Communication Wristwatch from a staff member and registered his fingerprint. His personal information immediately appeared on the device.
Once the information was confirmed, the Communication Wristwatch vibrated slightly, and the room number and time for his written test appeared on the screen.
"Classroom 301. What about you guys?" Lin Xinghai asked after a glance.
"Me too!" Liu Miaomiao and Jin Tong replied almost in unison.
As for Ye Xin, he said dejectedly, "I’m in Classroom 405."
"Looks like they’re assigned based on registration order. Let’s meet up after the test. By the way, you guys shouldn’t have any trouble passing the written portion, right?" Lin Xinghai asked, looking mainly at Jin Tong and Ye Xin.
"Don’t worry, I’ve memorized the material inside and out," Jin Tong said, patting his chest.
"Yeah, I’m fine too," Ye Xin nodded.
However, Lin Xinghai noticed that his expression seemed a bit... guilty.
A dull ache started in his jaw. Anyone else probably wouldn’t get eliminated by a simple written test, but this Little Fatty here had a guaranteed admission spot. It was entirely possible he hadn’t reviewed the material at all.
If he got eliminated because of the written test, he wouldn’t be able to participate in the comprehensive assessment that followed.
’In that case, who am I supposed to get my Legendary Level Mecha from?’
"The written test starts in 15 minutes. Let’s go," Lin Xinghai said, taking a deep breath and pushing the other thoughts aside.
It wasn’t just them; everyone else in the plaza was also starting to head toward East Sea Academy’s academic building.
This year’s cohort was definitely the largest ever. To accommodate the exam, the school had given all current students a holiday, freeing up the classrooms just to barely meet the requirements.
Arriving at Classroom 301, Lin Xinghai glanced inside. East Sea Academy was housed in an antique-style building, and even the desks and chairs in the classroom were surprisingly made of solid wood.
This retro style, however, made Lin Xinghai feel a bit nostalgic, reminding him of his old school days.
He followed the instructions on his Communication Wristwatch, found his seat, and waited quietly.
Before long, a head proctor entered, followed by two staff members.
The staff members carried a box, from which they took out tablets and distributed one to each student.
Lin Xinghai found it somewhat amusing. Although the academy and classrooms were antique-style, the teaching methods couldn’t possibly be the same as in the past. The exam certainly wouldn’t be on paper.
But on second thought, it made sense. After all, the tests had to be graded immediately, with scores available within a minute of submission. To achieve such efficiency, the grading had to be handled by an AI system, which made using tablets a matter of course.
When the time came, the locked screens of the tablets instantly unlocked and displayed the test interface.
Lin Xinghai didn’t start answering right away. Instead, he quickly skimmed through all the questions. The test format was simple, consisting of only three types of questions: fill-in-the-blank, multiple-choice, and short answer.
The content of these questions was, just as Wei Tianxing had said, relatively simple. The vast majority were about Zombies, with a smaller portion on history.
This knowledge was almost entirely covered in the materials Wei Tianxing had provided.
After his quick scan of the questions, Lin Xinghai felt confident. He couldn’t say for sure he’d get a perfect score, but getting eighty or ninety points shouldn’t be a problem.
He quickly began answering. The entire exam was only an hour long, but Lin Xinghai finished it all in 30 minutes.
Of course, some were even faster. In his exam room, the quickest student finished in a mere 10 minutes.
Lin Xinghai briefly reviewed his answers, submitted the test, and left the exam room.
Liu Miaomiao and Jin Tong were already waiting outside. They had submitted their tests a few minutes before Lin Xinghai.
Just as Lin Xinghai was about to speak, his Communication Wristwatch vibrated. He lifted it and saw that his written test score was already displayed on the screen: 92 points.
A notification also indicated that he could now head to the Martial Arts Dojo to receive his standard-issue weapon and prepare for the upcoming comprehensive assessment.
However, Lin Xinghai and the others didn’t go right away. After asking about their scores and learning they had both passed, they went together to Ye Xin’s exam room, Classroom 405.
Not seeing anyone at the door, Lin Xinghai immediately looked inside and found Little Fatty still working on the test, his brow furrowed in deep thought.
"Don’t tell me this Little Fatty came to the exam without studying at all!" Lin Xinghai couldn’t help but say upon seeing this.
"It’s also possible he just doesn’t like to read and can’t focus on it," Jin Tong offered another perspective.
"Oh no! If he doesn’t pass the written test, doesn’t that mean you won’t get your Legendary Level Mecha, Ah Xing?" Liu Miaomiao said with a worried tone.
Hearing this, Jin Tong fell silent, a faint sadness in his eyes.
’This team of ours probably won’t last long,’ he thought.
His first combat instructor had drilled into him from day one to never underestimate any opponent, because an unexpected setback could spell disaster.
’But these two... this isn’t just underestimating the enemy! It’s pure arrogance!’
The three of them stood there, each lost in their own thoughts as time ticked by. The end of the exam period was drawing closer and closer.
When they first arrived, half the students were still in Classroom 405, but gradually, only Little Fatty remained.
And at this point, Little Fatty also seemed to be getting anxious, even starting to scratch his head in frustration.
Finally, the time for the written test ended. The tablet in front of Little Fatty automatically locked and submitted his answers.
He walked out looking dejected. There were still questions he hadn’t finished!
When he saw the three of them waiting for him right outside the door, an awkward yet polite smile immediately appeared on his face.
"Uh... well..." Just as Little Fatty was about to say something, his Communication Wristwatch vibrated. He quickly looked down, and the dejected expression on his face vanished in an instant.
"Haha! The questions on this test were so simple. C’mon, c’mon, let’s go prepare for the comprehensive assessment! That’s the important part," Little Fatty declared, his mood changing faster than one could flip a page.
"It was simple, but you only scored 61 points," Jin Tong added quietly, twisting the knife. He had been standing nearby and had glimpsed the score on Little Fatty’s Communication Wristwatch.
"Hmph, what do you know? This is called ’strategic point-skimming’—flirting with the line between passing and failing. It’s just as difficult as getting a perfect score."
"Besides, a score of 100 and a score of 60 are both passing grades, and it won’t affect the final selection," Little Fatty immediately retorted, while silently adding this incident to his mental list of grievances.
