Chapter 17 Side Circumvention
"Mr. Fisk?" Link looked surprised. "How could you not remember? That card game changed my life."
After they shook hands, Link asked, "Mr. Fisk, are you also here to buy paintings?"
"I bought one before, and the works here are indeed excellent. I completely agree with Mr. Lin's point of view," Wilson Fisk said slowly. "The value of a work of art lies in the person who owns it."
"Mr. Lin is no longer a policeman?"
Link nodded and said, "Yes, that trip to Las Vegas made me a millionaire, so why would I become a policeman, especially at the Midtown West Precinct?"
"And that experience made me realize the advantages of psychology, so I quit my job as soon as I got back."
"I just sold my old house and bought a new apartment. With a police officer's salary, it would be difficult for me to even decorate it. I might as well just change careers."
Link took out a business card and handed it to the other person. "I'm a professional gambler now. I've recently participated in some poker games in New York and I'm quite well-known for my skills."
"I admire Mr. Lin's expertise in psychology," Fiske said. "I hope to have the opportunity to learn from him again."
"I didn't have this idea back then, and I didn't get the contact information of any of them, especially Mrs. Alexandra. If we were to do it again, I might not be able to beat her," Link said with a regretful tone.
Fix said, "That lady doesn't like public appearances; she only shows up when there's business to discuss. I'll mention you to her next time I see her."
"This is still my business card. I greatly admire Mr. Lin's talent."
"Gentlemen, how about I talk business first?" Vanessa said from the side.
She didn't interrupt the two of them beforehand, but joined in at the opportune moment after they had basically finished their conversation.
"Of course!" Fisk immediately took a step back.
Link also said, "I really like this painting. Can you deliver it?"
"Of course, please come with me to register your address and delivery time," Vanessa said, gesturing for him to leave.
Link took Jessica's arm and walked over, with Tracy following behind. Fisk, however, no longer suspected anything.
This person wasn't after him. He looked at Link's business card, which only had his name and phone number. This person had indeed become a multi-millionaire, but undeniably, there was no need for him to become a frontline police officer again.
Link took out his checkbook, signed a check, and asked for $30,000 for the painting.
Link left his address and then said, "Deliver it at 10:00 AM tomorrow."
"No problem, it will be delivered on time." Vanessa didn't show her emotions at the sale of a painting. "Is there anything else Mr. Lin needs?"
"I haven't finished my tour yet, but it looks like Mr. Fix is waiting for you. Let's come back another time then," Link said with a smile. "Remember to let me know if you have any new pieces; I just bought one."
"In addition, please recommend one or two of its artworks."
"No problem, here's my business card." Vanessa exchanged business cards with Link and then saw them off from the gallery.
Turning around, Vanessa went to Wilson Fisk's side and asked, "He didn't buy it because of you, did he?"
"No, Mr. Lin's psychology is exceptional. If it weren't for me, he might have continued browsing other works," Fiske said. "I'm the one who interrupted your business."
“It’s alright. He left his business card and even asked me to recommend some colleagues.” Vanessa smiled and said, “This is the first time I’ve seen someone select artworks from a psychological perspective.”
Fisker, however, had his own interpretation, saying, "Just like the one I bought, truly good works resonate with people."
……
Link didn't have a deep conversation today. Intelligence work requires caution and patience, especially not being impatient, and it's quite interesting.
After they came out, Link saw Jessica into Tracy's car and leaned out the passenger window, saying, "Come back soon, I'll miss you."
Jessica blushed and said, "I will."
The two shared a light kiss, then Link took a step back, waved goodbye to them, and returned to his car, starting it and driving away.
Back home, he took out his secure phone and called Coulson to report the situation.
"I met Wilson Fisk today; he's pursuing that female art dealer at the gallery," Link said.
"Very good, that's a good start. What are you planning to do next?" Coulson asked.
"I bought an oil painting. The woman had good taste in art. I told her today that we need more artwork to decorate our home," Link said, explaining his plan. "I also asked her to recommend other art dealers."
"I plan to start with her; after all, I'm a multi-millionaire now."
"However, my artistic skills are not very good. Does the bureau have any experts in this field? Let them go to the gallery first and then give me some professional advice."
"No problem. After all, you paid for it yourself, so we can't let you suffer a loss. I'll send someone to check it out first." Coulson was quite understanding, since Link had spent real money.
If the money he buys isn't worth much, then Link is essentially paying to work for someone else. Link joining S.H.I.E.L.D. is purely a personal hobby or out of curiosity.
However, his personal abilities are still outstanding, and he is one of the most suitable candidates for this mission.
I had considered sending Natasha, but Wilson Fisk doesn't care much for beautiful women; his private life is extremely monotonous.
Normally, S.H.I.E.L.D. wouldn't bother with someone like him, as it's not within their scope of business. However, his power suddenly expanded, which made S.H.I.E.L.D. pay a little attention to it.
At the same time, it is also a test for Link, since ordinary intelligence gathering cannot reveal Link's potential.
……
Jessica and Tracy returned to Tracy's house, where Jessica had a room, where they had previously lived together.
"Jessica, are you really moving in?" Tracy asked. "Is Lin a playboy?"
"No, I haven't lost my mind." Jessica shook her head and said, "It seems he's telling the truth. He used to be a policeman. I saw some photos in his house."
"He has photos of himself in police uniform, including one of him graduating from police academy, and the big guy I met tonight also confirmed what he said."
He wasn't bragging.
"At the same time, there was no trace of a woman in his house, and I'm quite talented in that area."
"However, now I'm thinking about finding my own business. Do you know how much money he spent on me today?"
"Nearly one million US dollars!"
"He asked you to come out and work?" Tracy asked in surprise.
