Chapter 19 Searching

Chapter 19 Searching

Link arrived at the restaurant before six o'clock, and the three of them quickly reunited, enjoying dinner while chatting and laughing.

The three then went to Tracy's house, sat there for about an hour, and then returned to Link's apartment with Jessica's belongings, where the two officially began living together.

That evening, Jessica changed into her new pajamas, and Link, driven by his wolfish nature, committed all sorts of beastly acts.

……

The next morning, Jessica nestled against Link and said, "Shouldn't we put some food in the fridge?"

"You decide, but are you even a good cook?" Link expressed his doubts.

"It's alright!" Jessica hesitated for a moment, and Link's heart sank to the bottom. He was considering whether he should cook for himself, for the sake of his stomach!

"Alright, no matter what, we need to get up now and fill our stomachs." Link stood up, then picked up Jessica and went into the bathroom together.

He didn't do anything reckless; he's not ready to be a father yet, so he's been taking precautions.

The two dressed neatly and left their home. They went to the underground parking lot, and after getting into the car, Link asked, "Can you drive?"

"I can't drive." Jessica's heart skipped a beat. "I was in a car accident when I was a child."

Link nodded and said, "I see. I'm sorry."

"It's okay, it's just that I can't drive," Jessica said.

They went to have breakfast, and then Link took Jessica to her makeup class and drove himself directly to Langley Osley's house.

I used X-ray vision to observe the area and found the alarm wiring. Then I used the equipment to block it and checked for surveillance cameras before sneaking in.

Without needing to search, I used X-ray vision to find a safe. It was a rather old-fashioned safe that required a key and a combination lock, which were not difficult to obtain.

A wire opens the key lock, then the combination wheel, which is even less of a problem; everything is transparent to Link.

After opening the document and looking through it, I found only some ordinary documents and some cash; there was no evidence of a crime.

He closed the safe, restored it to its original state, quietly withdrew, removed the jammer, and left.

Not disappointed, Link had been helping the mob launder money for so many years, how could he so easily leave things at home? Link was actually looking for a bank safe deposit box key.

Generally speaking, this is a more secure measure, as many banks only recognize keys and passwords, not people.

However, it won't be easy to find, because similar information often doesn't appear online. Link didn't find a similar key at the other person's house.

Langley didn't have any on him either, so now all that was left was his office, where Link arrived as a client.

He does need an accountant for his funds. He hasn't bought any stocks yet, so he needs an accountant to help calculate the taxes.

……

"Mr. Lin, what can I do for you?" Link arrived at the accounting firm, where he was greeted by the receptionist.

"I have some funds, all in cash, and I'd like to ask about tax and investment issues," Link said.

"That's no problem at all. I can introduce you to one of our accountants." The receptionist didn't ask about the amount of money, and Link's attire was mostly unusual.

Link said hesitantly, "Could you introduce me to your boss?"

"Sir, our accounting firm is very strong..." The receptionist was about to politely ask Link.

Link suddenly interrupted her, "I have thirty million US dollars in funds, and I want your boss to come forward."

"..." The receptionist immediately smiled and said, "No problem, please wait a moment."

Link nodded in satisfaction and stood aside to wait, while the receptionist picked up the phone and called Langley's office.

He was quickly invited inside. "Hello Mr. Lin, welcome to Langley Accounting Firm. I am Langley Osley."

"I've heard of Mr. Osley, which is why I came here." Link smiled and shook hands with the man, after which they both sat down.

Langley asked, "Mr. Lin, have you heard of me?"

"Yes, to be honest, I'm a professional gambler now, and I play in games with some of New York's upper class," Link said without any hesitation. "I'm new to this profession; I used to be a policeman, and I have no experience with accounting."

"Oh..." Langley Osley was a little confused.

Judging from his appearance, Link explained, "I won a lot of money in Las Vegas, twenty-five million US dollars. I have proof of funds from the casino."

The other party then realized that this was a sudden windfall.

"After that, I participated in some card games and never lost, so my bankroll increased," Link continued. "But now it's January 2007, and tax season is just around the corner."

Langley Osley immediately understood that this was a tax avoidance strategy, so he said, "Time is a bit tight right now. Apart from some expenses, the best way is to buy some stable stocks first, and then plan future investment projects in detail after tax season."

Link appeared to be listening attentively, but his gaze was constantly scanning the office. He had given up on the safe, because Langley would never keep such important evidence here.

He was looking for clues, especially the keys to bank safe deposit boxes, the kind that don't require personal information to be registered.

Link's biggest fear is that he has hidden the item overseas, in which case Link will have no way to find it, so he can only rely on luck.

Or perhaps Langley has some kind of safe house or similar place, and these things would be reflected on the key. The key he carries with him isn't special, and he doesn't have one at home either, so it can only be the office.

To put it bluntly, his office is safer than his home, and Link is looking for a special key.

"That's a good idea." Link seemed to agree. "Some people have mentioned that the government encourages investment in the stock market to avoid paying large amounts of taxes, but it's just a temporary arrangement. Am I right?"

“That’s right. Once the funds leave the stock market, they naturally can’t escape the tax issues.” Langley Osley nodded. “But why should we leave?”

"The key is the profitability of the investment. Of course, Mr. Lin, you can look for financial institutions on Wall Street, but there is too little time now. If you rush into a search, the outcome will be uncertain."

Link nodded, thought for a moment, and said, "Then I'm going to entrust these matters to you. Firstly, there's the tax issue, and secondly, I want to buy Stark Industries stock. That should be quite stable, right?"
