Chapter 461 Tang Travel (3)
Chapter 461 Tang Travel (3)
When discussing the matter with the village chief, Wangyou had no other requests except one: that the matter not be reported to the authorities.
The village chief readily agreed. The common people are most afraid of dealing with the government, so they avoid it if they can.
After learning the craft of building kang (heated brick beds), the young and middle-aged men of Qingtian Village formed groups to build kangs for nearby villages to earn money.
Wangyou hadn't expected that heated kang beds had existed for so long, but it seemed that very few people used them, and some people didn't even know about them. In the end, it was the upper class who controlled everything, and the lower class had no way of knowing.
The heated kang (a traditional heated bed) in Wangyou's house was built for free by the villagers. To reduce the earthy smell, Wangyou also took some cement and plastered her own kang again.
Although the villagers were curious about what it was, they never asked any questions, and Wangyou naturally wouldn't say much either.
Wangyou and Qingman did not run a business. Instead, they partnered with well-known and reputable restaurants in the city to sell their recipes and with jewelry shops, so they were never short of money.
Wangyou recently learned a new font. After all, she probably won't use the font she used to curse Li Shimin anymore. She'll use that font next time she wants to curse him.
Wangyou found a bag of cotton seeds in her space. It was obviously not the right time to plant them outside, so Wangyou could only find a piece of land in the Peach Blossom Spring space to plant them. However, Wangyou did not know how to plant cotton, so after thinking about it, she planted them using the method of planting vegetables, then watered them with some spiritual spring water and left them alone.
Let them grow up however they want.
However, perhaps Wangyou had used too much spiritual spring water at once, because when Wangyou entered the space again three days later, she found that the cotton seemed to have grown well.
I plucked a clump of it; it was soft and fluffy, and it felt so nice to touch.
Wangyou flipped through the book again and discovered that this thing could be used to keep warm, much more effective than covering herself with several layers of silk.
Thinking of this, Wangyou picked all the cotton from this small patch of land.
After picking the cotton balls, Wangyou took a big gulp of the spiritual spring water; she was exhausted.
Then, Wangyou dragged a huge package, three times the size of her, out of the space and called out to Qingman.
"Qingman, come and help me quickly."
"Miss, be careful." Qingman said worriedly, looking at Wangyou who was completely blocked by the large package.
"Qingman, quickly help me pick out the cotton seeds here, then wash them clean so we can make cotton quilts."
"Miss, is this something to keep warm?"
"Ah."
"Then Miss, please rest for a while. I'll take care of it." Qingman brought Wangyou some snacks and tea, then dragged the cotton from her bundle to deal with it.
After Qingman picked out the cotton seeds, she carefully stored them away. Although the young lady was young, she had her own rules for doing things, so even though Wangyou suggested that they address each other as sisters, Qingman never dared to cross the line.
After eating and drinking to their hearts' content, Wangyou heard the voices of children outside.
Out of curiosity, Wangyou ran out, but she didn't forget to tell Qingman.
When Wangyou went out, she saw many families in the village going up the mountain to chop and collect firewood. The older children were also out. Although their faces were red from the cold, no one was clamoring to go back.
"Aunt Tian, I want to go too, please take me with you."
“Miss Wangyou also needs firewood. There’s no need for you to gather it. We’ll gather it and bring it to you.”
"I just want to go for a walk in the mountains."
"Alright then, we can't fall behind."
"Thank you, Aunt Tian."
"Miss Wangyou, my mother told me to protect you."
"Thank you. What's your name?"
"My name is Grass Flower."
Hello, wildflowers.
"And me, my name is Dazhuang."
"My name is Skinny Monkey."
"My name is Jinzi."
A group of children arrived and surrounded Wangyou, protecting her completely.
Wangyou didn't say no. Although she wasn't cold, she still understood the principle that a little kindness is appreciated, but too much kindness breeds resentment.
The ground was covered with a thick layer of snow, which crunched underfoot. Wangyou would often grab a handful of snow and play with it, shaping it into various small animals.
"Miss Forget-Me-Not, the rabbit you sculpted is so beautiful!" Grass Flower praised sincerely. "But I can also weave grasshoppers. I'll make them and give them to you when spring comes."
“Great! I’ve never seen what a grasshopper looks like before!” Wangyou nodded with a smile.
"I know how to collect bird eggs. Bird eggs are delicious when roasted. I'll share one with you when I find one," Dazhuang said boldly.
"Okay, okay," Wangyou said with a smile. She was very curious about things she had never seen before.
Seeing that Wangyou was approachable, the children gradually opened up and started talking one after another. Wangyou listened with great interest and strongly expressed her desire to participate.
"When are you going to fish in the river? I want to go too," Wangyou said, her eyes sparkling.
"It will take about a month for the river to freeze solid."
Wangyou nodded and wrote it down. It wasn't that she lacked fish to eat; she just lacked that kind of fun.
Why not go deeper into the mountains?
"There are wolves, bears, and tigers in the deep mountains. We can't go in," Caohua said with a serious expression.
"Oh." Wangyou nodded, but whether she actually listened was another matter.
Once they reached the mountain, everyone split up to collect firewood and cut down dead trees, leaving the living trees largely untouched.
After asking, Wangyou learned that they clear away the dead trees in the forest every year and find new saplings to plant in March of the following year.
Indeed, the wisdom of the working people is great. No one asked or urged them, but they still managed to learn sustainable development.
Wangyou heard a lot of gossip along the way, but didn't collect much firewood. However, Wangyou wasn't worried; she could just buy some from the villagers later.
Wangyou, who often practices martial arts, is not afraid of the cold at all. She played happily in the snow and even slowly built a rabbit snowman among the tree branches.
Suddenly, Wangyou heard a series of rapid coughs and cries of pain.
Wangyou looked around and saw that no one was coughing while clutching their chest; everyone was diligently gathering firewood.
"Miss Wangyou, what's wrong?" Grass Flower, who always kept an eye on Wangyou, quickly ran over and asked.
"It's nothing. Did you hear any coughing or groans of pain?"
"No, Miss Forget-Me-Not, you must have misheard." Grass Flower listened intently for a while, then shook her head and said.
Wangyou's expression as she looked at the wildflowers didn't seem like she was lying, but the coughs and cries of pain were right next to her ears, one after another, so why couldn't others hear them?
Wangyou has always been interested in the unknown, but after looking at the villagers around her, she suppressed her curiosity. She didn't want to cause trouble for others, so she decided to find some time another day to go up the mountain alone and take a look.
"I must have misheard you. Go and gather firewood. I won't wander off."
"I'm off then. Just remember to call me if you need anything." Grass Flower nodded and continued gathering firewood.
