Chapter 18 The Class Committee's Kindness
Chapter 18 The Class Committee's Kindness
After Tang Huaiyi made up his bed in the dormitory and rested for a while, his classmates began to walk out one after another.
It was almost time for afternoon classes, so Tang Huaiyi called Song Siyuan and they went together to class in Class 1 of Senior Three.
The afternoon consists of one foreign language class, one physics class, and one self-study period.
As soon as the self-study period began, the homeroom teacher, Ms. Tian, walked in with a cold face: "At the start of the new semester, I'll be having a class meeting."
The content was nothing more than encouraging everyone to study hard, strive to get into university and change their destiny, and also that the course would be accelerated so that the course could be completed in the first half of the year, and intensive training for the college entrance examination would be conducted in the second half of the year.
Ms. Tian seemed to be born without a smile; after saying these words with a cold face, she added, "We've already had a few students fill in for the class committee since yesterday. Are there any other students in our class who would like to be on the class committee?"
"If there are any, then we'll elect class committee members; if not, then we'll just leave it at that."
He had a cold face and looked stern and difficult to talk to, so none of the students said a word.
Seeing that no one spoke, Teacher Tian said, "Let's settle on this for now."
"If we really need to elect class officers, let's wait a month and see."
"If there's nothing else, the whole class will study on their own..."
At this moment, Guan Xiaolin tossed her ponytail and stood up: "Teacher Tian, I have something I want to talk to you about. Can I come to your office in a moment?"
"Okay," Teacher Tian replied, and then left the classroom.
Guan Xiaolin didn't follow immediately, but instead approached Tang Huaiyi and Li Xiujuan: "Could you two come out with me for a moment? I'd like to talk to you."
Tang Huaiyi and Li Xiujuan were somewhat surprised, but they still followed Guan Xiaolin outside the classroom.
The campus was quiet, with only some talking sounds coming from the classrooms.
The three of them stood outside the classroom, not worried about being overheard.
Guan Xiaolin said, "Tang Huaiyi and Li Xiujuan, I asked the other classmates about your situation, and it seems you're facing some difficulties."
"I want to ask you guys, should I tell the teacher to organize the students to donate money for you? After all, you eat like this every meal, your bodies definitely can't take it..."
Li Xiujuan was taken aback and quickly waved her hand, "No need, no need..."
Tang Huaiyi also said, "Guan Xiaolin, thank you for your kindness. We eat pretty much the same things at home, and we're used to it. There's no need for the classmates to donate money."
"Also, I'm trying my best to improve our living conditions. I might ask you to change the food rations in a couple of days. Until then, I'll trouble you, the teachers, and the classmates to help us out as much as possible..."
Guan Xiaolin asked in confusion, "What's your plan?"
"I have some coins passed down in my family that I'm planning to sell," Tang Huaiyi said. "I used to be reluctant to sell them, but now that we're living like this, I have no choice but to."
Guan Xiaolin suddenly realized: "It's good that you have a solution. I always felt that it was too hard for my classmates to eat only boiled water and cornbread for every meal, so it wouldn't be right not to help them."
He then asked, "Do you know where to sell it? If not, I can help you find out. My dad knows quite a few people, and some of them are collectors."
Tang Huaiyi thought to himself that Guan Xiaolin's help was too roundabout and perhaps inappropriate.
After all, her family is well-off, and she knows collectors who certainly wouldn't care about something worth ten or eight yuan. It would be too inappropriate for her to ask her father and then ask her family acquaintances.
"No need, I have a way to sell them."
"That's good." Guan Xiaolin said with a smile, "I was originally going to talk to Teacher Tian about how I could help you, but since you have a way, that's perfect."
"You all go back to the classroom and study. I'll talk to Teacher Tian about my duty shift."
Tang Huaiyi asked, "Is there anything inconvenient about your shift? I can help you."
After all, the other party had meant well and wanted to help solve Tang Huaiyi and his wife's living problems, so Tang Huaiyi felt that he might as well help if he could.
"It's nothing, it's just that I'm a bit rushed after evening self-study. My home is in the county town, and I have to go home every day..."
After Guan Xiaolin said that, Tang Huaiyi understood.
For a young girl like her, it's safer to leave school with her classmates after class and go home together. If she, as a class representative, waits until all the other students have left, turns off the lights, and closes the doors and windows, it will be too late. Even though she's only a few minutes or so behind the other students, she'll end up walking alone at night.
Especially in small towns where streetlights are not on at night, it is really unsafe.
"Then leave this to me. I live at school anyway, so it's fine if I go back a little earlier and play a little longer," Tang Huaiyi said.
Guan Xiaolin was pleasantly surprised: "You're willing to help me? That's wonderful!"
"I'm really worried about this. Logically, this should be done by the class committee. If I don't do it, it would be a bit pretentious. But if I do, I'll feel uneasy walking home alone on a dark road, even if it's not far."
"If we ask the teacher to come up with a solution, they'll probably have to designate a student or bother the student on duty that day, and then I'll be deemed an incompetent class committee member..."
"Okay, I'll walk around the classrooms every evening to check on things," Tang Huaiyi said. "It's not a big deal, so just leave it to me."
Guan Xiaolin nodded: "Okay, I'll go and tell Teacher Tian right away."
"Tang Huaiyi, thank you so much!"
She took a couple of steps, then turned back, a bright smile radiating youthful energy: "I'll treat you to lunch tomorrow, don't refuse!"
After saying that, he hurriedly went to the teachers' office.
Tang Huaiyi glanced at Li Xiujuan: "Shall we go back?"
Li Xiujuan looked down at the buttons on her shirt, hummed in agreement, and followed behind her.
Before the two even entered the classroom, Guan Xiaolin ran back laughing and whispered to them, "Teacher Tian is really scary, that office is so gloomy..."
As she spoke, the three of them entered the classroom and returned to their seats to study.
Tang Huaiyi had a pretty good memory. There were some things he thought he had forgotten, but after carefully looking at the textbook and thinking about them, he could basically remember them.
For him, the biggest challenge was not subjects like mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology, but rather the subjects of Chinese language and politics.
The test points and understanding of Chinese and politics from decades ago are completely different from those of decades later. Some parts overlap, while some parts are no longer tested or are no longer the focus of the test.
During this self-study period, Tang Huaiyi only had a general idea of what to expect. If he really wanted to study diligently and improve his grades, he would have to put in a lot of effort. Moreover, even if he had already mastered the knowledge of subjects such as mathematics for next year's college entrance examination, he would still have to solidify his foundation to avoid making mistakes.
The competition for the college entrance examination is extremely intense nowadays.
After self-study, it was dinner time. Before Tang Huaiyi even left the classroom, Chen Dahe arrived at the classroom door and gestured for him to come out.
