Reborn in 1985: Starting from Contracting a Ranch

Chapter 70 Finding People

Chapter 70 Finding People

Driving the carriage with his belongings, Shan Yaowen hurried to the town.

The police station is still in the same old location.

The conditions in their town were rudimentary. Unlike other towns where the police station had its own courtyard, their town's police station was located in the township government compound. Apart from having three separate rooms, everything else was shared with the township government.

After all, there are only 5 people in the entire police station, so there is no need or funding to build a separate police station for them.

Once inside the township government compound, the police station is the easiest to find; it's in a very conspicuous spot, marked by a red and blue police light and a white wooden sign with black lettering.

Looking at this simple police station, Shan Yaowen couldn't immediately connect it with the modern police station he remembered.

Unfortunately, most of what he remembers is modern; buildings in the style of the 1980s are very rare in his memory.

If he hadn't remembered the location of the township government compound, he wouldn't have been able to connect the old, dilapidated building in front of him with the police station.

After all, this type of building would have been labeled as a dangerous building in modern times and would have been demolished long ago.

"Are you Comrade Shan?" Shan Yaowen had just glanced around the police station when a man in a police uniform came out of the room next door.

Shan Yaowen vaguely remembered this person; he was one of the police officers who went to their village with Captain Deng from the county's Public Security Bureau to ask him for directions.

"Yes, I'm Shan Yaowen. You must be Officer Lin?"

"Oh, I didn't expect you to remember me." Officer Lin smiled. "Is there something you need?"

If you know someone, things will be much easier.

Dan Yaowen was afraid that no one would recognize him and he would be kicked out, since he wasn't there to report a crime, but to ask for a favor.

"I've come to see Uncle Wolf. I promised him something, so I'm here to see him."

"Uncle Wolf? You mean Director Su, right?"

"right."

Officer Lin nodded. "There's a stable over there. You can park your carriage there, and the horses will have hay to eat. I'll go find the station chief for you."

"Oh, this is troublesome, smoking."

When traveling, Shan Yaowen always brings cigarettes with him, not only for his own consumption but also as a form of social interaction.

Sharing a cigarette with a man can quickly bridge the gap between you.

After Lin Gong'an lit a cigarette, he left, and Shan Yaowen led the carriage to the stable next to him.

"Good boy, Blackie, eat more if you're hungry."

Seeing the feed in the manger, Shan Yaowen unloaded the cart behind him, put the reins on the horse in the stable, comforted Heizi, and then turned around, picked up the jar of deer blood wine, and headed towards the police station.

He turned the corner and saw Officer Lin and Old Wolf at the door.

"Uncle Wolf." Shan Yaowen put down the wine jar and greeted Su Lang with a smile.

"Ah Wen, it really is you! Come in, come in and sit down, it's cold outside." Su Lang said with a smile, pulling Shan Yaowen into the house.

Officer Lin tactfully closed the door for the two of them and left.

"In this heavy snow, why are you coming to my place instead of staying home to prepare for the New Year?" Su Lang chuckled as he pulled up a chair for Shan Yaowen and sat down opposite him.

Shan Yaowen carried the wine jar into the house, and before he could even take out a cigarette, he saw Su Lang offer him one.

"I'm here to buy New Year's goods. I heard you had poor blood circulation and a back injury when you were at my house last time, so I got a jar of deer blood wine and brought it to you specially."

Shan Yaowen wiped his hands on his clothes, took the cigarette, and introduced the deer blood wine he had brought over. Upon hearing this, Su Lang squatted down to take a look.

He also took the opportunity to look around the room.

It's very simple inside, with just two wooden tables, one for office use and the other for storing some personal items, a few chairs, and a wooden cabinet for files.

The walls will be decorated with rules and regulations, maps of the jurisdiction, and slogans such as "Strict law enforcement, enthusiastic service".

Then there was a brazier in the middle of the room, with coal burning inside.

The layout is so simple that it's hard to imagine that this is the office of a police station chief.

Su Lang greedily sniffed the aroma of the deer blood wine, then reluctantly put the lid back on. "You should take it back."

"What's wrong?" Shan Yaowen sat in the chair, rubbing his hands together over the brazier to warm them.

"I owe you my life and I haven't even repaid it yet, and you're giving me gifts? I'm not worthy of them."

Shan Yaowen smiled and said, "I'm just concerned about the leader. Besides, I also need your help with something."

He knew Old Wolf's temperament, so he had thought about how to start the conversation before he came.

However, you can't ask someone for a favor empty-handed.

He happened to have a jar of deer blood wine at home, and knowing that Old Wolf had suffered many hidden injuries over the years, he brought it along.

"Oh, get to the point. But taking your things back isn't to say we don't want them, it's just that we have rules that we can't..."

"I know I shouldn't take things from the public, but I'm doing this as a friend, showing concern for your health, not as a bribe."

"This deer blood wine, when combined with Chinese medicinal herbs, can dispel cold and unblock meridians, making it suitable for joint pain caused by wind-cold-dampness."

Old Wolf was momentarily stunned by Shan Yaowen's words. "Deer blood wine can cure diseases? Isn't that stuff for aphrodisiacs?"

"Of course it can also enhance male potency. I remember your kidneys aren't..."

"Damn it, who told you that? My kidneys are perfectly fine!" As if his tail had been stepped on, Shan Yaowen's words were interrupted by Lao Lang's strong opposition before he could even finish speaking.

"I know, it's a back injury, a back injury."

Seeing the anxious Old Wolf, Shan Yaowen gave him a knowing look, and then quickly changed his tune.

Seeing Shan Yaowen's expression, Lao Lang sat down in his chair, feeling dejected. "How did you know I had a back injury? Did Lao Deng tell you?"

Before Shan Yaowen could speak, he started talking to himself as if he had solved a case.

"No need to cover for him. No one else is making such a fuss about it, damn it, Deng the big mouth!"

After complaining about his friend, Lao Lang finally remembered to ask Shan Yaowen about it.

Seeing that Lao Lang seemed to be trying to change the subject, Shan Yaowen readily changed the subject. After all, he had come to ask for help, and it was best to stop catching up.

"I'd like to ask how the crime of speculation and profiteering is defined?"

Upon hearing Shan Yaowen's words, Old Wolf thought he had committed a crime. "Aren't you a sheep ranch owner? How come you're involved in speculation?"

"It wasn't me, it was my brother-in-law, his name is Zhang Du..."

Shan Yaowen told everyone he knew.

At this point, he didn't think about hiding anything; trying to save face and keeping things to himself would only make things difficult for others.

His priority now is to get his brother-in-law out of trouble. What's the point of covering it up? Before his sister arrived, the news had probably spread throughout his brother-in-law's village.

"I see. I'll make a call about this first." Old Wolf didn't agree immediately. He got up, grabbed his coat, and prepared to leave.

"Thank you very much."

Upon hearing this, Shan Yaowen secretly breathed a sigh of relief; it seemed that Old Wolf had agreed to help.

However, he didn't know the full situation and didn't dare to speak definitively.

Seeing Lao Lang leave, Shan Yaowen's tense heart finally relaxed. Even if things went badly, having Lao Lang help him find out information was better than going to find people on his own.

Without connections, you wouldn't even know how to find someone.

As soon as Old Wolf left, Officer Lin came in with a thermos: "Hey, this is some hot water I just boiled, how about a cup of hot tea?"

Thank you.

Shan Yaowen quickly got up and took the ceramic cup.

Next, Shan Yaowen chatted with Lin Gong'an about this and that, talking about Lao Lang's heroic deeds in capturing that gang of bandits last time.

The conversation didn't stop until a few minutes later when Old Wolf returned.

"Two pieces of news, one good and one bad. Which do you want to hear first?"
