Chapter 1269 - 1244: First Meeting
Zhou Susu got off the car with Little Jing and walked into the coffee shop they had previously agreed upon, finding an empty seat to sit down."Little Jing, don’t be afraid. Sister will always be with you," Zhou Susu said as she stroked the girl’s head.
Little Jing nodded obediently and smiled at Zhou Susu.
Just then, a fashionable woman wearing sunglasses and carrying a suitcase walked in at the entrance.
She made a phone call as soon as she entered the coffee shop.
At that very moment, Zhou Susu’s phone rang.
The woman noticed Zhou Susu answering the call, along with the little girl beside her.
She looked at Zhou Susu and said, tearfully, "Officer Zhou, hello, I’m Zhang Rumei, the deceased’s sister. I really never thought that after being abroad for so many years, I’d return only because my sister passed away."
"I’ve always had a good relationship with my sister since we were young. If I had known, I would never have gone abroad and would have stayed by my sister’s side. Maybe this wouldn’t have happened." She walked over, dragging her suitcase towards the pair, and sat in the empty seat.
Zhang Rumei spoke emotionally, as if she shared a deep bond with Little Jing’s mother, like sisters.
If it weren’t for hearing those recordings, Zhou Susu might have believed her.
"Ms. Zhang, hello, please accept my condolences because it’s impossible for the dead to come back to life," Zhou Susu said to comfort her.
Little Jing seemed a bit tense at the sight of the woman, and Zhou Susu held onto her little hand tightly.
Zhang Rumei then looked at the girl beside Zhou Susu and said with a smile, "Little Jing, I’m your aunt, don’t you remember me? I used to take you out to play often."
Little Jing ignored her, showing a frightened expression instead.
She remembered that this woman in front of her was the one who argued with her mother previously and had said many scary things.
Seeing that Little Jing did not respond, Zhang Rumei did not feel embarrassed but rather expressed sadness, "Oh, poor Little Jing, so young and already lost her parents. I truly feel sorry for this child."
Zhou Susu knew that Zhang Rumei was pretending, as she had previously entertained thoughts of harming Little Jing.
But Little Jing was fortunate enough to escape unscathed without falling into evil hands.
"Yes, the question now is that your sister and brother-in-law have passed away, leaving Little Jing all alone. If she doesn’t have relatives, we could place her in a welfare home. However, she has you as her aunt, so we must have your consent," Zhou Susu said, frowning.
Upon hearing Zhou Susu’s words, Zhang Rumei quickly said, "She is my sister’s own child, how could I let her go to a welfare home? From now on, I will take care of Little Jing, especially since I have no children myself and genuinely like Little Jing."
Zhou Susu was not surprised by Zhang Rumei’s statement, as she had her own motives.
"But Ms. Zhang, you’ve been abroad for a long time, and Little Jing has faced such a huge change, causing her immense emotional trauma. If you take her abroad, I’m afraid she won’t be able to adapt to life there," Zhou Susu voiced her concerns.
"Officer Zhou, you’ve thought it through very well. I’ve been pondering this issue for days, and I’ve made a decision. From now on, I’ll live here in the country to take care of Little Jing, as if it’s for my sister," Zhang Rumei said with a smile.
Zhou Susu did not expect Zhang Rumei to stay in the country just to take care of Little Jing.
Upon hearing the conversation between the two women, Little Jing’s expression grew more tense, and she became increasingly fearful.
She started crying loudly.
Little Jing’s abnormal behavior startled both Zhou Susu and Zhang Rumei.
No matter how they tried to comfort her, Little Jing couldn’t be soothed.
After all, the coffee shop was a public venue, and with Little Jing causing a scene, Zhang Rumei and Zhou Susu felt embarrassed to stay any longer.
"Ms. Zhang, Little Jing hasn’t been out for a long time, perhaps she’s not comfortable here. Why don’t we chat somewhere else?" Zhou Susu suggested.
Originally, Zhang Rumei only intended to meet once and then take Little Jing away, but she did not expect Zhou Susu to propose talking at another location.
Actually, Zhou Susu did this deliberately, as she had been contemplating how to bring Zhang Rumei into the police station, and now that Little Jing had caused such a fuss, it had helped her greatly.
"Alright then, but where should we go?" Zhang Rumei asked, looking at Zhou Susu.
"How about going to my office? It’s quiet there and we won’t be disturbed by others," Zhou Susu suggested, looking at the woman in front of her.
Without any hesitation, Zhang Rumei readily agreed, "Sure, I also don’t like crowded places."
The three headed towards Ye Chen’s parked car.
Along the way, Zhang Rumei attempted several times to get closer to Little Jing, but Little Jing held onto Zhou Susu’s hand tightly, unwilling to let go.
She knew these things couldn’t be rushed and needed to be approached slowly.
After all, they hadn’t seen each other for a while, and feeling unfamiliar was quite normal.
Approaching Ye Chen’s place, the three of them got into the car. Zhou Susu did not sit in the passenger seat but let Zhang Rumei take that spot.
Zhang Rumei could tell that the man driving and Zhou Susu were obviously lovers.
She said with a smile, "Officer Zhou, you’re so lucky to have such a handsome and wealthy boyfriend."
Zhou Susu smiled and said, "Yes, Ye Chen is indeed very good."
When Ye Chen saw Zhang Rumei, he was also stunned. This woman was indeed attractive, but her heart was too malicious, which made him somewhat repulsed.
Along the way, only Zhang Rumei and Zhou Susu chatted, while Ye Chen focused on driving, and Little Jing remained silent.
The car soon arrived at the police station entrance, and the four of them walked in and headed straight to Zhou Susu’s office.
"It’s better here, quiet, and Little Jing seems to be in much better spirits," Zhang Rumei said with a smile.
It must be said that this woman’s psychological resilience was astonishing; despite what she did, she showed no fear upon arriving at the police station, which would be unnerving for an average person.
"Yes, perhaps it’s because Little Jing hasn’t been out of the house much lately," Zhou Susu echoed.
She kept thinking about how to question the woman while chatting with Zhang Rumei.
Ye Chen might have noticed her thoughts and said with a smile, "You all chat, I’ll take Little Jing out to play for a while."
After all, keeping Little Jing here to listen to the conversation between Zhou Susu and Zhang Rumei would clearly be unfavorable, possibly causing her further distress.
"Ye Chen, go ahead and take care of Little Jing," Zhou Susu instructed.
"Mr. Ye, I’ll leave Little Jing to you, thank you," Zhang Rumei said with a smile.
Actually, she also didn’t want Little Jing to hear those things, considering she was just a child.
