Chapter 105 Nutrients
The next day.
Lin Dachun went up the mountain to get busy; he couldn't stay cozy on the kang (heated brick bed) with Li Ruoxue any longer.
This kang (heated brick bed).
It's so addictive.
Also.
Sometimes, a lone man and a lone woman, without even wearing clothes, would squeeze into one quilt or on the kang (heated brick bed).
Just thinking about it is exciting and thrilling.
The loess soil was still hard, but the morning light already carried a sense of warmth.
With one shovelful, Lin Dachun dug a shallow pit around the jujube sapling. Beads of sweat rolled down his forehead, hitting the dry, yellow soil with a "plop" and disappearing.
He straightened up and looked at the newly planted green spots on the slope. The sea buckthorn seedlings were grayish-green and thorny, and the jujube branches were thin and tough. When the wind blew, they all swayed their heads.
They're alive, but they're listless, like starving children, wiry and weak.
"Just drinking water won't make me gain weight," he muttered to himself, calculating in his mind.
The meager strength of the loess soil alone is not enough to support their growth into a robust state.
"A crop is like a flower, and it all depends on manure."
The moment the thought crossed his mind, his eyes involuntarily drifted toward the two cave dwellings down the slope.
Behind the house was the outhouse that he had built himself.
After lunch, the sun was blazing.
Lin Dachun put on his faded old work jacket, dragged out a manure scoop, a carrying pole, and two wooden buckets covered in grime from the storage shed.
As soon as the bucket made a sound, Li Ruoxue came out of the house, holding an old mask in her hand and wearing dark blue arm sleeves.
"Shall we go now?" she asked softly.
"Yes, we need to fertilize while the sun is shining so that the fruit will grow." Lin Dachun replied, without stopping his work.
Li Ruoxue stopped talking and followed.
The two of them, one in front of the other, arrived at the latrine's cesspool.
A strong odor wafted over, fermented in the sweltering heat, heavy and almost taking shape.
Lin Dachun glanced at Ruoxue, who had already put on her mask, revealing only her calm eyes, and reached out to take the long-handled manure scoop from his hand.
"Haha, you're complaining about the smell? This is all your poop and pee," Lin Dachun joked.
"What? It's all mine, and you have half of it too. Humph." Li Ruoxue pouted and said embarrassedly.
"But seriously, your poop and pee shouldn't be wasted; they're excellent tonics. Plants love them," Lin Dachun said.
"Well, I pee at home now, so I won't be spied on while I'm in this outhouse," Li Ruoxue said embarrassedly.
Li Ruoxue squatting down to urinate has been seen by Lin Dachun countless times.
"I'll scoop it up. You're strong, you can carry the load later." Li Ruoxue's voice was muffled by her mask, but it was still very clear.
She took the spoon, leaned slightly towards the edge of the kang (a heated brick bed), lowered her wrist, and lifted it again, revealing a thick, dark brown liquid inside.
She steadily poured the sewage into a wooden bucket, her movements showing no hesitation or doubt, only fine beads of sweat sliding down her temples.
This stuff really does stink.
This job is dirty, tiring, and smelly; she shouldn't have had to do it.
Li Ruoxue worked for a long time and scooped up all the excrement.
"Apply fertilizer sparingly and frequently," Lin Dachun said, taking the ladle and filling it to the brim. "It's just like raising a child; you can't rush it, and you can't skimp on it."
Lin Dachun carried the fertilizer up the mountain to feed the sea buckthorn and jujube trees.
The two worked together, watering each tree one by one.
The wind blew down from the top of the hill, brushing past the tips of the new green seedlings, bringing a slight coolness and diluting some of the strong, pungent smell.
As she watered a patch of sea buckthorn seedlings, Li Ruoxue pointed to one of them and said, "Look at this one, isn't it stronger than the others?"
"Haha, this is the same plant you squatted here to urinate last time. It's growing completely differently now." Lin Dachun remembered that Li Ruoxue had urinated here back then.
"Ugh, look at that plant over there, it's all yellowed and wilted. I need to give it some nourishment so it can grow stronger."
As Li Ruoxue spoke, she immediately unzipped her pants, squatted down, and started urinating.
"This girl, really, she has no shame," Lin Dachun said with a chuckle after glancing at her.
"Are you all alone? There's no one else here."
Li Ruoxue blushed and said.
