Chapter 1718 - 1717: Bossing Others Around
Chapter 1718 - 1717: Bossing Others Around
"You're really smart. The reason the Yang Family has gained such fame is closely linked to these complex relationships within their family. However, credit where credit's due, Yang Wei, the Family Head of the Yang Family, has single-handedly supported the entire Yang Family. His abilities are clear for all to see. Setting aside those irrelevant aspects of the Yang Family, there are indeed many areas where Yang Wei is worth learning from."Shu Yi's response was very sensible. Despite the longstanding feud between the Shu Family and the Yang Family, he didn't dismiss the entire Yang Family with a single stroke, but rather approached it based on facts, distinguishing between the Yang Family and Yang Wei.
"Have I ever told you that you seem a bit foolish, but actually you're quite rational?"
A bit foolish at first glance?
Tang Rao suddenly gave Shu Yi an unexpected critique, leaving Shu Yi at a loss for words.
"Brother, could you spare me some dignity in front of so many beauties?"
He already possesses a limited amount of bright, shining aura; if Tang Rao further ruins it, how can he maintain any face among these beauties?
"What are you talking about? I'm praising you, haven't you caught on at all?"
Shu Yi was labeled as foolish by Tang Rao, who pretended not to understand anything, playfully teasing Shu Yi to the point of confusion.
"Young Master Shu, Young Master Tang Rao, the master has instructed me to invite you both for a meal."
In the room, Tang Rao and Shu Yi were having a good time, with the beauties not even touched yet, and they were asked to eat. It wasn't entirely pleasant for them.
"Can we go later? My back hurts."
"Yes, yes, I also have a headache. Why don't you go ahead without us? Skipping one meal won't starve us."
Ever heard of the saying 'beauties are a feast for the eyes'?
That's precisely the meaning.
They're not hungry, as they're already satisfied from looking at the beauties, so how could they be hungry?
"But the master said I must invite you two, and if you don't go, I will be severely punished by the master."
The messenger looked ready to cry, but unfortunately, he was a man, and rather than evoking a sense of pity for distressing Tang Rao and Shu Yi, it simply repulsed them.
"Alright, can you please not cry? As a man, crying in front of me is a bit unbearable."
Unbearable or not, acceptance is necessary, the servant thought to himself. If you don't go, I will face severe punishment from the master, which I truly cannot handle. If the master gets really angry, I might even lose my life.
"Fine, suddenly my head doesn't hurt anymore, although it might ache again tonight. How about we get some treatment later tonight?"
Sticking with Tang Rao hasn't been long, but Shu Yi has already learned some bad habits.
"Since your head doesn't hurt, neither does my back. So where's the meal? Aren't you going to take us there?"
For their first meal at the Yang Family, Tang Rao had anticipated that this meal wouldn't be as simple as Shu Yi mentioned.
He had arrived at the Yang Family alongside members of the Shu Family, making quite a spectacle, likely making the entire Yang Family aware of their presence.
To show respect for their guests and seize the good opportunity, it would be unusual for them not to join the meal together.
Previously, Shu Yi had told Tang Rao how the Yang Family members loved finding trouble, with collateral branches targeting the main branches and vice versa. Sitting together at the table, they might end up fighting before even finishing a couple of bites.
"Looks like this meal is more like a Hongmen Banquet?"
Upon arriving at the large dining hall, the perimeter of the long table was almost entirely occupied.
Tang Rao leaned in, whispering into Shu Yi's ear.
"No matter their disagreements, we just need to eat, and once we're done, we leave. Keep distant from things that don't concern you. That's what you taught me, have you forgotten?"
Since when did Shu Yi become so wise? Watching Shu Yi's progress, Tang Rao couldn't help but feel gratified.
"Since you're prepared, let's head in now."
As Tang Rao and Shu Yi walked in side by side, several pairs of eyes fixated directly on them, as if trying to embed themselves into Tang Rao and Shu Yi.
"Are these the young men my elder brother praised greatly? I don't think they're that great."
The man seated on the left side at the third seat broke the silence first. His voice was not loud, but attracted the attention of everyone in the otherwise silent dining hall.
He was Yang Wei's real brother, named Yang Wu.
Before Grand Master Yang's death, he handed the Yang Family over to Yang Wei rather than favoring Yang Wu. Since then, the relationship between Yang Wu and Yang Wei has been fraught with discord. The more he heard people stirring up trouble, the more upset he became, leading the relationship—initially a fond one between brothers—to a point of hostility.
Fortunately, Yang Wei holds all the reins of power within the Yang Family, and Yang Wu is still dependent on Yang Wei. Despite the hostility, Yang Wu complies with whatever Yang Wei wants him to do.
"Yang Wu, what do you mean? Brother already said that today we're just gathering for a meal. Don't drag out those old grudges here or vent them on our most esteemed guests. If you say one more word, be careful that I won't show mercy!"
Yang Chan was the youngest daughter of Grand Master Yang, maintaining herself well at her age with not even a single wrinkle on her face.
"Yang Chan, what do you mean by your words? Are you suggesting that my words earlier were sowing discord?"
Yang Wu's temper flared. At even a minor provocation from Yang Chan, he couldn't resist wanting to argue loudly with her.
"I didn't say anything. But let me remind you, my dear second brother, the whole Yang Family knows about the animosity between you and elder brother. Normally it's fine if you target elder brother, as he's big-hearted and doesn't stoop to your level. But remember, in front of guests, we Yang Family won't comply with you just because of them; Yang Wei oversees the Yang Family's affairs, so don't forget your own identity."
Clearly, Yang Chan didn't have a favorable attitude towards Yang Wu either.
"How dare you speak to your second brother that way? You, who had a child out of wedlock, have no place in our Yang Family, yet you dare to lecture me in front of guests. Are you asking for trouble?"
Yang Wu's arrogance nearly drove Yang Chan to leave.
"Enough! You all say less. If anyone doesn't want to eat here, they can leave immediately."
Yang Wei sat at the head of the table, his face dark as coal. He sat quietly, but seeing the situation begin to spiral out of control, he stepped in early to stop it.
"Brother, who do you think I'm standing up for? I'm defending your honor. Yang Wu usually acts arrogantly is one thing, but now he's almost peeing on your head!"
