Chapter 28: Target: Guojin!
Chapter 28: Target: Guojin!
Two evening self-study sessions passed quietly during the exam.
As get out of class was about to end, Han Chuan put down his pen, rubbed his sore wrists and brow, and handed the answer sheet filled with answers to Wei Jiqiu and Fang Jianyu.
"Teacher Fang, Teacher Wei, I'm done."
Wei Jiqiu reached out and took the test paper, sat down at his desk, took out a red pen, and quickly began to grade it, checking the answers against the paper.
Fang Jianyu also moved closer, his face filled with undisguised anticipation.
The office fell silent instantly, with only the scratching sound of a red pen scribbling across paper.
The exam papers were graded very quickly.
Han Chuan scored 122 out of a possible 160 points.
This score is not high, and it doesn't even meet the cutoff for the national finals.
Last year, the cutoff score for the national physics competition finals was 143 points, and Han Chuan was 20 points short of that.
But both Fang Jianyu and Wei Jiqiu in the office were shocked, even stunned, by this score.
They knew all too well the value of this score.
Especially considering this was done by a student who had never participated in any competition training before, had never systematically learned any competition-related knowledge, and had never even practiced a single real competition question.
What's even more unbelievable is that just two months ago, the student who submitted this answer sheet only scored 51 in a monthly exam for ordinary high school students, failing to even reach the passing grade.
If they hadn't seen it with their own eyes, seeing the test paper Han Chuan had completed in front of them, probably no one would have believed it.
This is not a school internal selection exam, nor a preliminary round, but the official provincial competition exam paper.
When the two of them first discussed using the semi-final exam to test Han Chuan, their expectations were not high.
They planned to use this challenging and comprehensive test to identify Han Chuan's strengths and weaknesses. If he could score above 80 points, it would be an outstanding achievement.
After all, he had no competitive background, so being able to do this is enough to prove his talent.
Unexpectedly, Han Chuan gave them a huge surprise.
He scored 122 out of 160 on the semi-final exam!
Even if he were to participate in the provincial competition now, he could still win a third prize.
In the office, Wei Jiqiu pushed up his glasses, held the test paper in his hand, looked at Han Chuan, and asked with a somewhat complicated expression.
Do you know what the best score was in last year's provincial physics competition at No. 1 High School?
Before Han Chuan could answer, Lao Wei announced, "135 points!"
"This is the best result our school achieved in the physics competition last year, barely winning a provincial first prize. But this is already the peak of our school's physics competition results in recent years."
As he spoke, he placed the test paper on the table and tapped the score column lightly with his finger: "You got 122 on this second test paper, which is beyond my expectations."
"but!"
At this point, Wei Jiqiu stared intently at Han Chuan, his eyes filled with a mixture of fervor and urgency.
"However, compared to the top geniuses at Xingcheng's key high schools, this result is far from sufficient!"
"Last year in the Physics Olympiad semi-finals, a total of 17 students from the four top high schools alone, Changjun and Yali, achieved perfect scores!"
"They got full marks because the test was only out of 160 points. You got 122 points, which is the only score you can get right now."
"Of course, you still have time. There are five months between now and the provincial competition. Your potential hasn't been fully realized yet!"
"The provincial competition isn't your final destination, nor is the national finals. I hope you can make it to the national team, or even the world championship! Represent the country, and represent No. 1 High School!"
"Are you confident?!"
Han Chuan nodded and said, "I'll do my best!"
Wei Jiqiu: "It's not just trying our best, it's giving it our all!"
"I've seen your talent; now I want to see your hard work!"
At this point, he picked up the competition exam paper on the table and glanced at the answers.
"Judging from this test paper, your foundation in classical mechanics and electromagnetism is very solid, and your problem-solving approach is also very flexible. You lost almost no points in these two areas, which is excellent."
"But your knowledge of optics, modern physics, electricity, and relativity is far from sufficient. There are also experimental exams, which are your weaknesses and areas you need to focus on improving."
"Starting today, you don't need to attend morning or evening self-study sessions anymore. I will reschedule your study plan."
"For the next five months, your task is to work with me on competitions!"
In the office, Han Chuan subconsciously nodded and said "okay," then realized what he was doing and asked with a troubled expression.
"Teacher Wei, is it necessary to do this every day?"
Wei Jiqiu replied matter-of-factly, "Otherwise what?"
Han Chuan gave a wry smile and said, "Well, Teacher Wei, I also have to participate in the math competition and there's training over there, so I might not be able to come and learn physics with you every day."
Upon hearing this, Wei Jiqiu was taken aback, then frowned and asked, "You also signed up for a math competition?"
Beside him, Fang Jianyu nodded and answered for Han Chuan, "Yes, he participates in both math and physics competitions."
"Nonsense!"
Upon hearing Fang Jianyu's answer, Wei Jiqiu's brows furrowed immediately, and he scolded, "Participating in both math and physics competitions at the same time? Isn't that ridiculous?!"
"How will he allocate his time and energy? If he tries to do both, he'll end up doing poorly in both, wouldn't that be a waste of his talent?!"
"I'll go talk to the people in the math group and tell them to focus solely on the physics competition!"
Fang Jianyu shook his head helplessly and said, "They probably won't agree over there. I actually had to snatch him from them to participate in the physics competition."
He paused for a moment, then looked at Wei Jiqiu and said with a wry smile, "To be honest, Han Chuan was first discovered and signed up for the math competition. His mathematical talent... is no less than his physics talent."
Wei Jiqiu's lips twitched. He looked at Han Chuan, remained silent for a moment, but still didn't give up. He said, "But this is too distracting. I'll go find the principal!"
"If Han Chuan can participate in the physics competition alone and give it his all, I'm very confident I can bring out a national first-place winner!"
"This is an award that our school has never received before!"
Without even putting down the test paper in his hand, he hurriedly walked out of the office, preparing to go and negotiate with the principal.
In the office, Fang Jianyu and Han Chuan, still not quite understanding what was happening, exchanged a bewildered glance.
However, Fang Jianyu quickly realized what was going on, and looked at Han Chuan with a smile, saying, "Little Han, Teacher Wei values you so much, why don't you reconsider?"
"You just heard him say that if you only participate in the physics competition, Old Wei is very confident that he can lead you to the national finals, and even win the national gold medal."
Han Chuan: "..."
He feared that if he gave up mathematics, Ge Dadi would kill him.
Of course, he felt that before Ge Junxun killed him, it was more likely that the math teacher Cao Wen would take a knife and chop the physics teacher in front of him into mincemeat before making dumplings.
After all, he knew how much Teacher Cao valued him.
Before he knew it, he had become a hope for the school's math and physics competitions.
