Chapter 7: The 108th Golden Issue
Chapter 7: The 108th Golden Issue
"You said they were fighting each other."
"Yes, look, Qiao Lin Chen has wounds on her arms. It's possible that this lady started it. After all, Qiao Lin Chen has just finished high school and is still inexperienced in the ways of the world."
The young police officer pointed at the Black man.
"She was also injured, so logically Miss Qiao Lin should have stopped her."
Lee Ethan was lying through his teeth.
"It's easy to imagine that a drug addict would associate with those kinds of people; aren't physical injuries quite common?"
"..."
The veteran police officer sensed the protective intent of the prison guard in front of him, but this was their territory, and no one else could interfere.
Did you see it with your own eyes?
"No, I just happened to be passing by and saw them fighting. But we can tell their character by checking their records. Qiao Lin is a good girl at school, but I don't know about this lady. We'll see how the jury judges her in court."
Upon hearing this, Mary, a Black woman, widened her eyes in surprise.
Good heavens, she originally intended to use established facts to send the girl to prison, something she had done before during her years of drug use and theft.
But the man in front of me said he would ignore the facts and judge based on both parties' criminal records and experiences.
Without a doubt, Mary knew that in court, the jury would definitely favor the girl, while someone with such a long history of misdeeds would be sent to prison immediately.
"That's not how it works. I remember the supermarket should have CCTV footage. You two officers can check the footage."
The two patrol officers exchanged a glance. The older officer told his teammate to go in and check the surveillance footage, while he stayed behind to continue questioning the officers.
At this moment, Chen Xiulian finally realized something and looked at Li Yisen next to her. The other party's blinking action further confirmed her guess, let alone that she had taken the initiative first.
"Officer, when I rushed out to question her, it was this woman who started it."
The old policeman interrupted.
"Is there any CCTV footage to prove it?"
The young policeman quickly came out and shook his head.
"There's no CCTV footage from today, but there is footage from yesterday's theft. The shop owner claims today's cameras are broken."
"....."
Mary, a Black woman, looked incredulous.
"Impossible, what a coincidence that it broke today, they must have deleted it."
The young policeman echoed.
"Maybe we can take the computer down and see if we can restore it."
Lee Yisen frowned slightly. He sensed that the young policeman was somewhat biased towards drug users and might be discriminating against Asians, or even Chinese people.
"That's certainly possible, but a search warrant is required. I don't know if the court will approve it because of a drug-using Black man, especially during this sensitive time. The prisons are clearly overloaded and don't even want to deal with minor offenders. Besides, since there's CCTV footage of yesterday's theft, there should be enough evidence to make an arrest."
"..."
The old policeman didn't want to continue the investigation because of the sensitive period mentioned, so he looked at the black man.
"I suggest you reconcile."
"no."
The veteran policeman wasn't going to tolerate a drug addict thief.
"Believe me, continuing this investigation won't be good for you. You should know your own situation."
"..."
Mary finally lowered her head.
Let's make peace.
Seeing this, Chen Shuren's family did not pursue the theft. However, the police investigated further and were still shaken by the near-jailbreak they had just witnessed. They wondered how their daughter could possibly attend a good university with a criminal record.
California has now downgraded thefts under $1000 from felonies to misdemeanors, so a used iPhone 14 is worth at most $300, or even less, not enough to sentence Mary to many days; at most, she'll be fined and released.
The police left quickly, and Mary, sitting in the police car, looked at the group of Chinese people chatting and laughing outside. She couldn't help but feel a burning hatred, and she quickly came up with a way to get revenge.
These are sensitive times, different from the past; perhaps that guy can help.
On the other side, Li Yisen parted ways with Lao Chen's family, refusing to accept the so-called thank-you gift, and didn't care about the slight violation he had just committed.
.
The next evening arrived quickly. After experiencing the mental health treatment arranged by the prison during the day, Li Yisen met up with a good friend who had graduated from the same police academy class for drinks.
When Li Yisen arrived at the bar, two men were already drinking and waiting, one in black and one in white, both quite handsome.
The burly white male is named James Gray, and he is now a patrol officer with the Pasadena County Sheriff's Department. Like Ethan Lee, he passed the elite test and only spent a year in prison before leaving.
The light-skinned Black man, named Jacob Garcia, was a tech police officer who started working in the cybercrime investigation department right after graduation because of his expertise in computers and hacking.
Lee Esen sat down and immediately opened a bottle to drink.
"James, Jacob, hasn't Kaia arrived yet?"
James pointed behind Lee Ethan.
"She was late just like you, and here she is now."
Li Yisen turned his head and saw a beautiful woman with silver hair walking towards them.
With snow-white skin, deep and beautiful features, as exquisite as gemstones, she exudes a cold and aloof aura. Her height of 1.76 meters, coupled with high heels, makes her look exceptionally tall.
She has an enviable bust, a slender waist that can be encircled with one hand, full hips, a perfect hourglass figure, and upon closer inspection, you can see that her long legs have firm muscle lines comparable to those of a supermodel.
Kaia Anderson, like the other three, is a close friend from the same class. The four of them formed a Facebook group called "Golden Class 108" and were the top students in terms of overall academic performance during their police academy days.
Most importantly, Kaia's father is a high-ranking officer in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, has Nordic ancestry, and is a typical second-generation police officer. She became a patrol officer right after graduation, instead of going to a women's prison.
Such a beautiful woman immediately attracted the attention of many men as soon as she sat down.
Jacob laughed.
"Who's going to treat you two who're late?"
Before Li Yisen could speak, Kaiya looked at her good friend Tiantian and said.
"Godfather".
"..."
Li Yisen's open mouth got stuck, and someone immediately unleashed a powerful attack.
The other two immediately burst into laughter.
"Haha, looks like Ethan's treating. You said at the police academy that whoever treats you is your godfather, and you can't just call him that for nothing."
James picked up the bottle and handed it over.
"My godfather is treating us to a meal."
"Respect my godfather."
What could Li Yisen do? His godfather said that he had mentioned it during a dispute at the police academy about who should pay for the meal, and who knew that these guys would remember it all.
My wallet is thinner again, and I still have to pay off my student loans, unlike you people who have parents to support.
After the jokes, the group started talking about current events, from Black protests during a sensitive period to the riots at the Central Penitentiary for Men.
"I can't believe Ethan is the first of the four of us to be on TV. He'll probably be working in a wealthy city like me. You're catching up to me, Ethan."
Lee Esen shook his head.
"It's not that I've caught up, it's that I've surpassed them. I've received an application for early promotion, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, I'll be a Level 1 Constable in a few days, unlike you junior officers."
"Damn it."
"You arrogant bastard."
Two men, one in black and one in white, immediately attacked, determined to teach this guy a lesson.
Just then, Kaia suddenly laughed.
"Level 1 officers are indeed fast, but look at this."
A gold and blue police badge caught the eyes of the three, and they were all taken aback.
"A detective's badge?"
"How is that possible?"
"Damn police kid."
Kaia instantly elbowed a Chinese man who was spouting nonsense out of jealousy.
"Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! You elbowed my kidney! You can't afford to pay for the damage!"
Kaia gave the other person a beautiful eye roll.
"You deserve it."
