Chapter 38 I'll Call You Brother Jie
Chapter 38 I'll Call You Brother Jie
Upon hearing the sound, Ma Junjie felt a little flustered and became more vigilant.
His first thought was that the same group of people from before had caught up with them.
He cursed inwardly.
"Damn it, I don't want to fight. When will these bastards ever stop?"
As he thought this, the footsteps grew closer and closer.
Ma Junjie stopped in his tracks and stood still.
He threw what he was carrying on the ground, clenched his fist, and prepared to turn around and knock the person down with a single punch without hesitation.
As he turned, he threw a rapid punch.
The fist was about to hit the person,
Suddenly a voice was heard.
"Ah Jie!"
"Holy crap!" Ma Junjie shouted, quickly pulling back his fist and punching empty air to the side.
He exclaimed in surprise.
"Assistant Liu!"
Liu Bingbing was so frightened by Ma Junjie's fist that her face turned pale and she froze on the spot.
"Ah... Ah Jie, you..."
Ma Junjie quickly went over to look Liu Bingbing over and asked her with concern.
"Assistant Liu, are you alright? Were you hurt?"
Liu Bingbing snapped out of her daze and shook her head.
"No, it just startled me suddenly."
"Hey Jie, how come your punches are so powerful, they seem to be flying?"
Upon hearing this, Ma Junjie smiled.
"That's right. When I was a kid, I fought with cows every day. I wasn't very strong, so I would have been trampled to death by them!"
Liu Bingbing looked doubtful and said,
"I don't quite believe it..."
"By the way, I've been practicing boxing and free fighting since I was a child. We can have a spar sometime."
"You?" Ma Junjie looked at Liu Bingbing with some confusion.
Liu Bingbing clicked her tongue in annoyance.
"Look at that disdainful look in your eyes, I really want to punch you to the ground!"
"Hmph, don't look at the sky with your bare bottom exposed—you're blind! I used to be a boxing champion."
Ma Junjie stared wide-eyed and said...
"I really didn't see that coming. Okay, I'll have a match with the champion sometime!"
Liu Bingbing curled her lips and gave Ma Junjie a disdainful look.
Then he said,
"Hey, I saw you in the park just now, I kept chasing you, where did you go?"
Ma Junjie looked at Liu Bingbing in surprise.
"Assistant Liu, you..."
Liu Bingbing suddenly interrupted Ma Junjie impatiently.
"Ah Jie, could you please stop calling me 'Assistant Liu' all the time? It's after get off work, and it's getting annoying!"
"Uh..." Ma Junjie asked, somewhat at a loss.
"Assistant Liu, what should I call you?"
Liu Bingbing rolled her eyes at Ma Junjie again, clearly wanting to hit him.
She glanced at Ma Junjie a few times and asked,
"How old are you this year?"
"I'm 21, almost 22."
Liu Bingbing nodded and muttered to herself,
"I didn't realize I was a little younger than you."
After a while, he said,
"How about this, you can call me Bingbing from now on."
"I'm younger than you, and I don't have an older brother, so I'll call you Brother Jie."
Ma Junjie was a little embarrassed and said...
"Assistant Liu, isn't this a bit inappropriate?"
Liu Bingbing was absolutely furious.
"Assistant Liu, it's you again?"
"I told you to call me Bingbing, and I'll call you Brother Jie, did you hear me?"
Ma Junjie smiled slightly.
"Assistant Liu, okay!"
"Huff huff huff..." Liu Bingbing suppressed her anger and exhaled.
Seeing her expression, Ma Junjie laughed.
"Okay, I understand. It's just that I'm not used to it yet."
"Okay, I'll call you Assistant Liu at work, and I'll call you Bingbing when we meet after get off work."
"That's more like it!" Liu Bingbing glared at Ma Junjie.
Then, remembering something else, he asked,
"By the way, Brother Jie, where did you go just now?"
Ma Junjie thought for a moment and then recounted how he had just encountered someone selling him a phone at a low price.
Liu Bingbing's eyes widened, and she exclaimed nervously, "That was close! That was close!"
Ma Junjie didn't understand and asked,
"Bingbing, what do you mean by 'that was close'?"
Liu Bingbing patted Ma Junjie's shoulder forcefully.
The answer was,
"Brother Jie, that was close! You almost got scammed!"
Ma Junjie didn't understand, and said...
"Scammed? That can't be right, the phone is real, I checked it several times!"
Liu Bingbing shook her head, looked at Ma Junjie seriously, and explained,
"Brother Jie, you're new here and don't know about some of the scams around here."
"This person often sells mobile phones here, using the same tricks many times."
"The phone I showed you is real, that's for sure. But once you pay for it, they'll try every trick in the book to replace it with a fake one, one of those model phones that just light up."
Ma Junjie seemed to be deep in thought.
I recalled some of the details that had just happened.
Suddenly I remembered,
When I was paying and preparing to complete the transaction, the man selling the phone insisted that I take the SIM card myself.
Ma Junjie said he would get it for him, and then the man's attitude changed drastically.
He didn't know the reason before.
Now, through Liu Bingbing's explanation, he finally understood.
The man wanted to take advantage of that time to switch to a fake one.
To everyone's surprise, Ma Junjie simply stuffed the phone into his pocket and refused to give the man any chance to touch it.
The man had no chance to get a new phone, which explains his anger and frustration, leading him to cancel the transaction.
Ma Junjie clicked his tongue in admiration and said,
"Wow, that was close!"
"The city is full of tricks, I want to go back to the countryside."
Liu Bingbing chuckled.
"Rural roads are slippery, and people's hearts are complicated."
"Brother Jie, you've just arrived, so you're bound to feel out of place. Let me tell you, remember this: never trust strangers, never be greedy for small gains, and never believe that something for nothing will fall from the sky."
"Remember these points, and basically no one can lie to you."
Ma Junjie nodded.
"Okay, Bingbing, I understand. Thank you for teaching me a lesson."
Liu Bingbing smiled slightly.
"Brother Jie, if you don't understand anything in the future, just ask me."
"As for me, I can't say about other things, but I should be able to prevent you from suffering unnecessary losses."
Ma Junjie nodded and said...
"Okay, I'll ask you for help whenever I have any questions in the future."
"Let's go, it's getting dark, let's go back."
Liu Bingbing nodded, then noticed that Ma Junjie was holding some things and asked,
"Brother Jie, what did you buy?"
Ma Junjie picked up what he was holding and said...
"A few magazines and a pair of shoes."
Liu Bingbing reached out and took the magazine from Ma Junjie's hand to look at it.
He then exclaimed in surprise.
"Brother Jie, are you looking at these?"
Ma Junjie smiled slightly.
"Yes, I loved reading it when I was in school. It's just that the new ones are too expensive; I can't afford them!"
"Occasionally, someone in the class would buy a copy, and the whole class would take turns reading it."
Liu Bingbing looked at Ma Junjie, somewhat incredulous.
In her memory, most of the boys working in these factories were playing mobile games; if they read books, they would read "Story Collection" or magazines featuring beautiful girls.
Ma Junjie is truly extraordinary.
Liu Bingbing picked up the "Stars Poetry Journal," flipped through a few pages casually,
Suddenly he raised his head and said,
"Brother Jie, could you write me a poem?"
