Chapter 17 Discourse and Words
Chapter 17 Discourse and Words
"Class is starting, class is starting! Sit down and be quiet!" After scolding the students, Old Deng felt some of his furrowed brows soften. "Master math, physics, and chemistry, and you'll be able to go anywhere in the world without fear! Don't do well? If you don't do well, you'll end up like that guy outside, only good for managing discipline. Yu Xuezhong, hmph, the worst class I've ever taught!"
Suddenly, a sharp, deep baritone voice, both low and high-pitched, pierced the classroom: "What the hell?! Where's my math test?!"
Ran Qingfeng glanced at Lu Chi and pointed to the trash can.
oh...
It was that paper airplane that almost poked her.
Old Deng didn't care about discipline, as long as it didn't too much disrupt his lecturing style: "Alright, who solved the remaining half of the problem from last class? Raise your hand so I can see!"
The classroom fell into a deathly silence.
Some of the people who are frequently named have even decided where they want to be buried.
thump.
The class representative, who had been scapegoated, was kicked into a chair, his mouth gurgling incessantly, presumably cursing the person behind him. He gave a pathetic, defeated laugh: "Uh, I got it...partially done...but the result seems to have some problems..."
Class 13 is arranged by rank, with higher ranks indicating lower status. The class leader and dogs are not allowed inside. Whenever the school assigns them any tasks, they are in a state of constant begging and pleading.
Old Deng strode down from the podium, adjusting his thick-rimmed glasses with the hand that held the thermos.
"Hmm, you did manage to do it, but it's not just the result that's wrong, the whole thing is wrong. The second half, starting here, goes off-track!" Pointing to a spot on the paper, Old Deng walked away, leaving the class representative scratching his head like he had lice: "Who else got it right?"
Liu Lan glanced at Shan Heman's exam paper subconsciously: "Huh??"
Dan Heman froze, stammering, "No...no...ah!"
Old Deng's eyesight wasn't great, but his hearing was still very sharp. Hearing the noise, he strode over, looking heroic and transforming into a test paper plunderer.
"Hmm..." Old Deng glanced at the test paper, then at Shan Heman, then back at the test paper: "You shouldn't be here. Is there some problem with moving up to the next grade? Did someone else take your spot? Who's your homeroom teacher?"
The person next to him, grinning and selectively replying, said, "What kind of behavior is this!"
The students in Class 13 tend to prefer compromises; they have a lot to consider between making things difficult for their classmates and causing trouble for Lao Yang.
Upon hearing this, Old Deng immediately frowned: "Why is it that guy surnamed Yang again? Who brought a cell phone? Call him over here! This is outrageous!"
If that's what others say, then it must be a scam to confiscate phones, but...
It is a trustworthy platform.
Zhu Gaizhi reminded him, "Teacher Wei, actually Shan Heman is a new transfer student who came to our class."
Old Deng adjusted his glasses and stared at Zhu Gaizhi for a while, seemingly remembering her. Then he exclaimed, "Oh, this is Class 13. I thought it was a middle class. Not bad, not bad, you do have a few good prospects!"
Zhu Gaizhi's lips twitched.
"You go up and talk... um..." Old Deng suddenly withdrew his finger from the pitiful, weak, and helpless Shan Heman. "I have to leave after class. Go to my office. There's a workbook there; take it. It's handwritten. You can do it in my class. It won't take up your study time. If you don't understand something, come find me in class. What's your name again?"
Lu Chi poked the trembling Shan Heman with a grin: "Aren't you going to thank the teacher?"
Dan Heman nodded vigorously, "Oh...Teacher Wei, my name is Dan Heman...Thank...thank you, sir..."
Old Deng glared at Lu Chi, then resumed his unhurried demeanor, slowly strolling back to the podium: "Class representative, please don't collect Xiaoman's homework anymore, it's a waste of her study time. Come on, let's look at this question. First of all, this question isn't actually beyond the syllabus..."
It's started again.
Whenever Deng starts his presentation with phrases like "This question isn't beyond the syllabus," "With your current knowledge, a small group of people can still solve it," "It might not be common, but it's not impossible to find it on the test," or "Olympiads often use similar rhetoric," it means that even if this question were taught to the lowest-ranked students, the class would still be filled with lamentations. Or, to put it another way, Deng is explaining a particular part of the questions only to those he wants to explain them to, to gain a sense of camaraderie like that of Bo Ya and Zi Qi, because he has no idea which class is which.
He spoke passionately and enthusiastically, frequently raising and lowering his thermos cup, creating a vicious cycle. By the end of the class, the tea that Xiao Wang had casually poured for him during the break was still full, but he hadn't drunk a single drop.
As for who is Xiao Wang...
Vice Principal.
After Deng left, Liu Lan immediately turned to Shan Heman and asked, "What kind of question was that? It's so difficult, is it really possible for anyone to solve it? Was there any connection between what Deng said and what came after?"
Dan Heman thought she wanted to ask a question, so he picked up his pen and pointed to the paper: "This is—"
Liu Lan clasped her hands together and raised them above her head: "Please have mercy! I, Liu Lan, am a piece of yellow paper, as pure as a forsythia flower. Please don't mentally pollute me!"
Ran Qingfeng: "Where are you going to stick your dirty hands out, Shudao Mountain? Get your filthy hands off Sister Man right now, you hear me?"
Dan Heman gave an "oh" and stopped talking, but the occasional glances and whispers from the classroom still made her restless in her seat.
Ran Qingfeng pointed at Lu Chi: "What are you standing there for? That slut will definitely come over here in a minute and try to get Man Jie to go to the math office with him. He's everywhere. Who knows what kind of slut he'll be up to this time!"
Lu Chi exclaimed and stood up: "Let's go, I'll take you on a tour of the territory~"
Dan Heman let out a soft "oh," slowly stood up, and walked past Liu Lan's chair, only to have Liu Lan pinch his leg again: "Wow, your legs are so thin!"
Dan Heman gasped in surprise, burying her head under Lu Chi's elbow. She hurriedly looked up, only to see half of his face: "Wow...so tall...I mean...you're actually this tall!"
Lu Chi's figure blocked the eager gaze of the math class representative. He sighed slowly and slid down from his chair, only to be hit on the head by his deskmate: "You don't care about your own group members at all, but you're longing for other people's harems. What the hell are you doing? Get up and do your test, or you'll be copying!"
"Damn it! I didn't! Don't talk nonsense!"
"Ha, scabs!"
The entire teaching building is oriented slightly north-south, so it gets scorching hot in summer and drafty in winter. Each office is located at the south end of its respective floor, with the math department on the third floor.
As they passed an office, Lu Chi suddenly reached in through the window and grabbed a whole handful of Hsu Fu Chi caterpillar-shaped fruit gummies, stuffing them into Shan Heman's small hand. Soon, Ying Bao's head popped out of the window, her defenses broken: "Lu! Classmate!"
