Chapter 38 Being Followed
The four of them finally started to take Link seriously. He was indeed a master hired by the casino, and he had figured out all four of them.
Sloan looked at Link with curiosity, but didn't say anything. Old Antonio did the same; the woman seemed very interested in Link.
The one who lost his temper the most was Saint Dino. He glared at Link with some annoyance, realizing that his outburst earlier made him look like a fool.
Link's earlier assessment was correct; there was indeed a competitive relationship between the siblings. Now, Santino felt that his previous actions had displeased his father.
Link's current rampage makes him appear foolish, which is very detrimental to his future.
Link ignored the fiery glare from his opponent and continued winning. The money was substantial, enough for him to buy another batch of Stark Industries stock.
Moreover, the tax payment deadline has passed, so he can wait until next year to pay his taxes; he has plenty of time.
Smoking a cigar and occasionally sipping bourbon, Jessica relaxed and watched Link wreak havoc with great interest, even getting up to pour herself a glass of champagne.
Before midnight, Link won all the chips. Sloan stood up, clapped his hands, and said, "Very impressive, the young man's skills are excellent."
Link also stood up and said, "I'm a professional gambler, and my specialty is psychology. If you need anything, you can contact me anytime. I'm based in New York."
"Of course, you're a worthy opponent. May I have your business card?" Sloan seemed completely unconcerned about losing ten million dollars, so Link handed him his business card.
Sloan left nothing behind, turning to Antonio and saying, "We've both lost; it's a tie this time."
Then he left directly. Link doesn't know what the two sides discussed, but he doesn't really care.
Old Antonio looked at Link and said, "Young man, I wonder if you'd accept being employed?"
"No, I won't accept it. I've never lost a single time since my debut. If I accept someone else's job, then I'm bound to win." Link shook his head. "But then the bet will be out of my control."
"That makes sense!" Old Antonio nodded, then turned and left. His daughter gave Link a flirty wink, then turned and left as well.
Saint Dino, however, pointed at Link before turning and leaving.
Jessica then asked, "Honey, will this cause trouble?"
"No, how could there be any trouble?" Link sneered. "Alright, we've won quite a bit this time, we can go home now."
He turned to the hotel manager and said, "Exchange it for cash and deposit it into my account."
"Okay, Mr. Lin!" the other party said very politely.
However, when Link received the call from the bank, he knew that the casino wasn't that generous. They not only deducted the previous four hundred dollars, but also took a 10% cut.
Link only received a little over forty million. He's definitely not coming back to this place; it's not generous at all.
The next day, the two left the hotel by car and flew back to New York. Link invested another million dollars and then transferred five million dollars into Jessica's account.
He found Langley and bought another three thousand Stark Industries shares, leaving the remaining millions for living expenses.
……
Every morning at nine o'clock, McCall would arrive at the apartment's underground parking lot and wait for Jessica to come downstairs and get into his car before he would drive her to the office of Jessica's charity foundation. The office had been renovated and Jessica was now going there every day to recruit people.
Some relevant personnel still need to be recruited, after all, the foundation currently holds stocks worth 90 million.
Link also holds a position here as the investment director, and he is responsible for the foundation's investments.
Jessica is primarily responsible for charitable matters. The foundation needs to review the pro bono cases accepted by the law firm, and there are many issues involved in this process.
Criminal cases generally do not generate income, but civil compensation cases do. Once you win the case, you are no longer eligible for financial aid and will continue to receive legal fees as usual.
Link is temporarily not working at the foundation because there is no need for investment, and he is currently somewhat idle.
Card games aren't held every day, maybe only a few times a month, usually on weekends.
Link grabbed his car keys, got up, went downstairs, got into his car, and roared into the New York traffic.
He didn't think about what else he could do, because he estimated he would be very busy starting next year, so his current free time was only temporary.
"Huh?" While Link was driving aimlessly, he suddenly noticed someone staring at him, which was easy to spot.
This was the first time he had ever been targeted. Even Wilson Fisk hadn't sent anyone to watch him. Considering recent events, it was easy for him to guess who it was: Santino Antonio.
Link's car started driving towards Hell's Kitchen!
Once inside Hell's Kitchen, he chose a secluded parking lot, parked his car, took the keys, got out, and walked away.
The follower also stopped his car and then followed on foot. Link walked into a small alley.
The follower followed him into the alley, but Link's figure suddenly disappeared. He immediately became alert and pulled out a pistol equipped with a silencer.
Holding guns in both hands, the follower cautiously moved forward. The alley was filled with debris and trash cans, and the follower carefully searched and advanced.
But he didn't know that Link was floating above him, and that he had only come here to avoid some surveillance.
Link landed silently behind the other person, reached out and grabbed the back of the neck, then lifted him up!
"..." The stalker suddenly grabbed the back of his neck with tremendous force, lifting his feet off the ground. He tried to resist, but couldn't move at all. He held the gun in one hand, trying to pass it under his arm and shoot from behind, but the pistol was snatched away by the other party in an instant.
"Bang..." Link snatched the other man's pistol and slammed him against the wall, leaving him dazed and confused.
When the other person came to their senses, they sat on the ground against the wall, looking up at them in horror.
Link smiled and asked, "Alright, now tell me, why were you following me, and why were you carrying a silenced pistol? You clearly wanted to kill me, right?"
"..." The stalker didn't say a word, just stared at Link.
Link pointed his gun at the other man's forehead and said, "I'll count to three. If you don't speak, then there's no need to speak."
"three!"
"two!"
"..."
