Chapter 68 Houses and Land
Chapter 68 Houses and Land
"He Genbao, what happened to your face?"
Teacher Tian entered the classroom with the book and, after teaching for half a period, suddenly noticed He Genbao's swollen face.
"I'm fine, I just tripped and fell," He Genbao replied in a muffled voice.
Teacher Tian looked at him quietly and said, "Be careful in the future, and come to the teacher if you have any problems."
He Genbao remained silent.
Teacher Tian continued the lesson.
Guan Xiaolin glanced back at Tang Huaiyi, who responded with a flat look and continued listening to the lecture.
"Teacher Tian, Teacher Hou bravely defeated a knife-wielding thug. How will the school reward him?"
When get out of class ended, Song Siyuan suddenly asked a question.
Guan Xiaolin and the other students also looked at Teacher Tian with curiosity.
Teacher Tian stopped and frowned as she looked into the classroom. Seeing that all the students were staring at her, she asked, "Who told you that Teacher Hou did something heroic?"
"That's what Teacher Hou said himself."
"I haven't heard of it," Teacher Tian said coldly before leaving the classroom.
Song Siyuan immediately rushed up to Tang Huaiyi: "You were right! Monkey Butt was just bragging!"
Guan Xiaolin walked over, looking astonished: "He's a teacher...and a politics teacher at that...how could he do such a thing?"
"That's because you don't understand him."
Song Siyuan excitedly recounted the story of the disgusting female classmate with the monkey's butt. Guan Xiaolin had heard of it before, but it always seemed like just a rumor.
Only today did I truly realize how despicable this Teacher Hou's character was, that he even dared to fabricate such a lie as his act of bravery.
How could someone like that be a teacher...?
After expressing her feelings, Guan Xiaolin spoke to Tang Huaiyi about He Genbao: "He Genbao really isn't planning to complain to the teacher anymore. Hopefully, this matter will end here."
Tang Huaiyi simply hummed in response.
Seeing his reaction, Guan Xiaolin knew he didn't care about the matter, so she didn't say anything more.
Just after school let out in the afternoon, Uncle Tang Zhengcai arrived at the classroom door, grinning from ear to ear.
"Huaiyi, Huaiyi! Come quickly!"
When Tang Huaiyi arrived, his third uncle showed him the marriage certificate.
The bright red booklet was printed with the slogan: "Implement a marriage system based on freedom of marriage, monogamy, and equality between men and women."
It contained the names, birthdays, and hometowns of Tang Zhengcai and Xu Ruyun, and was stamped with an official seal, but there were no photos.
"Huaiyi, I'm married! I'm married! I have a wife, and she's from the city..." Tang Zhengcai started laughing, but then tears streamed down his face. He reached out and hugged Tang Huaiyi's neck. "Huaiyi, my good nephew!"
"If it weren't for you, I don't know what my life would be like! From now on, if you need anything, come to me. If I try to evade your questions, I'm not human!"
Seeing that his life was about to get back on track, Tang Huaiyi felt relieved that one less thing was troubling the Tang family.
But what he said was really awful...
Tang Huaiyi pushed his third uncle away with disdain: "What kind of talk is that?"
"If you're going to swear an oath, just say you're alone, don't bring your grandparents along, okay?"
Tang Zhengcai grinned broadly: "I don't watch my mouth, I don't care what I say, Huaiyi, don't take it to heart..."
"How's Teacher Xu's daughter? Does she bother you?" Tang Huaiyi asked. "If she does, you'd better put up with it and not get angry."
"She's quite sensible and polite, much better than Ma Xiangju's daughter..."
Tang Huaiyi originally wanted to give his third uncle some more advice, but at this moment he couldn't help but laugh.
I almost forgot, my third uncle had served even more difficult people. That family squeezed money out of him, occasionally giving him a friendly face, but turning on him if he didn't give them any benefits.
Compared to Widow Ma's family, Teacher Xu and her daughter were definitely much easier to serve.
"Alright, Third Uncle, are you going back to the village today or staying?"
Tang Zhengcai scratched his head and chuckled, "Teacher Xu told me to stay and go back to pack my things tomorrow..."
"Alright then, Third Uncle, you go ahead with your work, I need to go eat," Tang Huaiyi said.
Tang Zhengcai called out to him again: "Huaiyi... I'll go back and get some money to bring back some decent clothes."
"My belongings, the land I cultivate, my house—all of them will be yours."
Tang Huaiyi was taken aback: "Third Uncle, what's wrong with you...?"
Tang Zhengcai said seriously, "Tomorrow I'll take Teacher Xu home to meet my parents. I don't plan to go back to the village after this. I've been laughed at for being a bachelor for so many years. What would I do if I went back? I'd just be gossiping with those people, and nothing good would come out of there."
"Teacher Xu won't let me go back either. She wants me to live in the county, so I'll listen to her. From now on, we can go home for a meal and see our families during holidays."
As she spoke, she put her arm around Tang Huaiyi's shoulder and told him what was on her mind: "And speaking of you, Huaiyi, if you really get into university, it's fine if you don't care about my land or my house."
"If you don't pass the exam, this is still a family business. When you marry that girl from Lijia Gou and have children, you can ask my older brother and sister-in-law for money and food, but they won't be able to come up with much. Not only did I borrow money before, but your second uncle is even worse than me. Now he's touched that girl and wants to stay at your house and freeload."
Tang Huaiyi was listening to Tang Zhengcai's heartfelt words and felt that his third uncle was really different now that he had a wife. His obsessive search for a wife had passed, and he had suddenly become a normal person who treated him quite well.
Hearing this, he was somewhat taken aback: "Third Uncle, wasn't my second uncle's matter already over?"
"Something happened in the past, but he later went and touched other women..."
Upon hearing this, Tang Huaiyi frowned as well: "He's not innocent? He's really a scoundrel?"
"Yeah, your second uncle is definitely a good-for-nothing," Tang Zhengcai nodded. "He might cause even more trouble in the future."
"When I wanted to find a wife, I had to be polite and ask women for her hand. But he's different; he just gropes and touches strangers..."
Tang Huaiyi waved his hand speechlessly: "Third Uncle, let's not compete anymore, okay?"
You used to use your family's money and grain to lick the boots of that widow Ma. What kind of glorious thing was that? You didn't break the law, but you were still disgusting.
Tang Huaiyi can't go home to ask about his second uncle's matter in detail right now; he can only wait until he goes home on Saturday to talk about it.
After exchanging a few more words with his third uncle, he went back to the classroom to have lunch with Li Xiujuan.
Ignoring Li Xiujuan's whispered advice, Tang Huaiyi divided the cold meat buns and duck eggs between the two of them, resulting in each of them leaving a cornbread uneaten.
"Leaving it overnight might not be good. Why don't you eat more tonight?" Li Xiujuan asked, feeling a little regretful.
"If you're full, you don't need to eat anymore." Tang Huaiyi put away the two steamed buns. "I'll need them."
Seeing that he was useful, Li Xiujuan stopped saying anything more.
After evening self-study, students gradually returned to their dormitories or left the school.
Tang Huaiyi and Li Xiujuan stayed until the very end. After Li Xiujuan returned to the girls' dormitory, Tang Huaiyi waited in the dark campus with two steamed buns in his hand.
Before long, the three birds landed one after another.
