Chapter 186 Meeting the Future Mother-in-Law
Chapter 186 Meeting the Future Mother-in-Law
When Wen Yu drove up to the apartment building where Lin Ruolan lived, he tightened his grip on the steering wheel.
Su Qingyao turned her head to look at him. At this moment, Wen Yu's brows were slightly furrowed, his lips were pursed into a line, and his whole body was as tense as a string about to snap.
She couldn't help but laugh.
She leaned in and gently placed a kiss on the corner of his mouth.
"Okay, okay," she said softly, "you're my fiancé now, what are you afraid of?"
Wen Yu turned to look at her, a rare hint of unease in his eyes.
"What if my aunt... doesn't like me?"
"How could that be?" Su Qingyao blinked. "You're so kind."
"But you're better." He stared intently at her. "I'm afraid I'm not good enough for you—"
"You and I are the perfect match."
Su Qingyao interrupted him directly, cupped his face and made him look at her, "Don't belittle yourself."
Looking into her bright eyes, Wen Yu took a deep breath and opened the car door.
Su Qingyao got out of the car and saw the trunk was packed full.
Tobacco, alcohol, tea, candy, ginseng, bird's nest, imported fruits, high-end gift boxes, and other things she couldn't even name were neatly stacked, filling the trunk of a large jeep almost to the brim.
Su Qingyao finally understood why Wen Yu had changed to this car today.
Wen Yu turned around and glanced at her, his expression very serious.
"Baby, is this enough to give you for our first meeting?"
He paused for a moment, then said, "If it's not enough, I'll have Qin Yue send some more over."
Su Qingyao glanced at the dazzling array of items, which added up to at least tens of thousands of yuan, and her lips twitched.
"That's enough," she pushed him toward the elevator. "Let's go up quickly, or people will start watching if we stand here any longer."
Wen Yu nodded, bent down to pick up the four large gift boxes, and strode towards the elevator.
Su Qingyao tried to reach out to help him carry a few, but he dodged her by turning to the side.
"Baby, don't move," he said matter-of-factly. "I'll just run around a few more times."
Su Qingyao ignored him, grabbed a few light items, and followed him into the elevator.
The elevator stopped on the sixth floor.
The two walked to the door of 601. Wen Yu put his things down, turned around and kissed her cheek.
"Baby, wait for me at the door, I'll bring the rest up."
After saying that, he strode towards the elevator.
Su Qingyao watched his retreating figure, leaned against the wall, and smiled slightly.
Over the next ten minutes, she watched Wen Yu make four trips back and forth.
Every time the elevator doors opened, he would come out carrying a full load of things, neatly stacked at the doorway.
Fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead, and the sleeves of his white shirt were rolled up to his forearms, but his eyes were bright, with a kind of earnest yet clumsy cuteness.
By the time the last trip was over, a small wall of gifts had been piled up at the entrance of 601.
Su Qingyao looked at the pile of food on the ground, then at Wen Yu's face, which was slightly flushed with nervousness, and couldn't help but laugh.
She began to imagine the shocked expression on her mother's face when she opened the door and saw this scene.
Wen Yu straightened his clothes, took a deep breath, and raised his hand to knock on the door.
A gentle voice came from inside the door, "Coming, coming."
The door opened.
Lin Ruolan's smiling face appeared at the door.
Then, her smile froze for a second.
My gaze slowly shifted from Wen Yu's rosy lips and white teeth, his sweet smile, to the entire wall of gifts behind him.
She turned her head blankly and looked at her daughter.
"Yaobao, you two...did you move the whole supermarket here?"
Su Qingyao covered her mouth, laughing so hard her shoulders shook.
"Mom," she managed to suppress a laugh, "it's your future son-in-law's first time meeting you, so naturally he's prepared a lot more."
Before Lin Ruolan could react, Wen Yu had already stepped forward and obediently bent down.
"Hello, Auntie!"
His voice was clear and respectful, as if he had rehearsed it countless times.
"I'm Wen Yu, Yao Yao's boyfriend. You can call me A Yu. I'm 25 years old, live in XXXXXX, and currently work at the Wen Group. I have no bad habits, don't smoke or drink, am in good health, have harmonious parents, own a car and a house, and have enough savings to support Yao Yao for the rest of her life..."
Su Qingyao listened from the side, her face turning red.
This person... is really registering their household registration.
Lin Ruolan listened blankly, her expression shifting from surprise to bewilderment, from a mixture of laughter and tears to an inability to suppress a smile.
This kid is so honest.
She recalled the light in her daughter's eyes whenever she mentioned him, the years she had been in a coma, and the medical team that had cared for her day and night.
A warm feeling welled up inside her, and her smile became even gentler.
"Okay, Ayu."
She turned to the side. "Come in quickly."
After entering the house, Wen Yu put his things in one by one, then stood up straight with his hands hanging at his sides, like a new recruit waiting to be inspected.
Lin Ruolan couldn't help but laugh when she saw his nervous expression.
"Ayu, sit down, don't stand." She gestured to the sofa. "What would you like to drink? Tea or water?"
"Auntie, let me do it." Wen Yu quickly stood up. "Please sit down, I'll pour it for you."
Before Lin Ruolan could speak, he had already strode into the kitchen, found a kettle, tea leaves, and a cup, and skillfully brewed a cup of tea, which he then respectfully presented to her.
"Auntie, please have some tea."
Then he poured Su Qingyao a glass of warm water and placed it in front of her.
Su Qingyao couldn't help but chuckle as she looked at his eager demeanor.
Lin Ruolan picked up her teacup, took a sip, and glanced between the two men before finally settling on Wen Yu.
"Ayu," she put down her cup, her tone gentle, "Yaoyao has told me everything that's happened these past few years."
Wen Yu's body stiffened, his fists clenched, and he lowered his eyes, unsure of what to say.
He did hurt the baby after all.
He fears.
They were afraid that Lin Ruolan would not agree with them, and that the baby would be caught in the middle and have a hard time.
Lin Ruolan looked at him, her eyes filled with heartache, not blame.
"My child, you've suffered."
Wen Yu paused for a moment, then looked up.
Lin Ruolan smiled and gently patted the back of his hand.
"Auntie isn't the kind of person who doesn't understand things. You did so much for Yaoyao and for me to wake up. You left three years ago to protect Yaoyao. The suffering you've endured abroad these past few years is no less than Yaoyao's."
She paused for a moment, then said, "Auntie, thank you so much. Thank you so much."
Wen Yu's eyes welled up slightly.
"Auntie, I..."
"No need to say anything, Auntie understands."
Lin Ruolan interrupted him, smiling as she looked at Su Qingyao, "Qingyao, go to the kitchen and see if the soup is ready."
Su Qingyao knew that her mother wanted to have a few words with Wen Yu alone, so she nodded, got up, and went to the kitchen.
The living room fell silent. Lin Ruolan looked at Wen Yu with a gentle yet earnest gaze.
"Ayu, you are the benefactor of my daughter and me. I am very grateful for everything you have done for Yaobao, but please forgive my rudeness and selfishness. I just want to ask you something."
Wen Yu sat up straight. "Please ask."
"Are you feeling better?"
Wen Yu paused for a second, then said, "Alright, you've had complete control over it for a year now, and you're no different from a normal person."
Lin Ruolan looked at him without saying a word.
Wen Yu knew what she was waiting for. He took a deep breath and met her gaze.
"Auntie, I know what you're worried about."
He spoke slowly, word by word, "I've heard about my father from my mother, and I assure you—"
"I will not become the second Wen Tianyao, and Yaoyao will not become the second my mother."
"I will let her do what she wants and go wherever she wants. I will not confine her or hurt her."
"I will treat you well for the rest of my life, regard you as my mother, and be filial to you with Yaoyao for the rest of my life."
He spoke his last words softly, yet with great force.
Lin Ruolan looked at him for a long time, and then smiled.
That smile held relief, contentment, and even tears in its eyes.
"Okay, Auntie believes you."
